good morning all,
I will be receiving my license for 2011 next week in the communistwealth of taxachusetts. I gave up buying meat 5 weeks ago in prep for hunting hare and late goose. I have a bear 40# recurve and just built my arrows. Does anyone have advice for stalking hare. I was a level 2 archery instructor for a summer camp many years ago. I did it for 5 years. Thanks for the chance to be part of this forum. Everything here is wonderful.

Good for you FNG.  SOunds like you have a good bow there. I hope during the archery training you took it was impressed upon you that mastering and maintaining the process of shooting a bow is far more important than immediate results--If you want this to be a life-long pursuit.

If you are hunting small game, practice until you can hit a spot less than half the size of the little critter.

When it comes to hunting the beast, whatever its name, learn how it ticks. Learn where the animal lives, when and where it spends its time, and what its favorite escape tactics are. Of course you can learn a lot of this as you hunt.  A great place to hunt rabbits, espeically with a bow would be a tree nursery -- landscape farm if you will. Rabbits do a lot of damage to these plants.

Geese would be pretty difficult but a lot of fun if you don't missing a lot of shots. I hunted them twice with bow.

Welcome FNG, I'm new here myself, you will find that the folks here are first class, very helpful, and full of knowledge. This is a wonderful place.

I know my bow is a piece of fiberglass SH%^! But it will have to do this first season its only small game anyway. When I start thinking about bigger game I will then think about a better bow.

Welcome, hares are going to like thick areas of evergreen, spruce and fir.  In Massachusetts that means the hill towns in the western part of the state.  There should be plenty of cottontails through out the state.  the cottontails will be in hedgerows and edges of fields and old pastures.  Good luck.

Its not the tool, its the tool carrier! Those rabbits won't know or care what bow stuck the arrow in them.  

So why is your Bear a piece of S*&^ and what kind of Bear is it?  Some of us like them and continue to use them.

It's full fiberglass had a rubber handle. It's still shoots well just 15+ yrs old. Fibers are frayed in very small spots towards tips. I will be looking for a wood bow when money gets better. For now its good for small game shoots.

Welcome to the family! I'll bet those old fiberglass Bear and Pearson bows have shot at more, and taken more small critters than high-end customs the last 4 or 5 decades. I had one when young, and many here I'll bet started their Trad Journey with them. I have a Pearson 2pc Longbow, solid fiberglass limbs, model #304, that is a darn good shooter, and fun to shoot too.
