Just got a new Shrew Longbow and dialed it in.   The arrow shoots great with feathers  but when I bare shaft, it is terrible...

Shrew 60' long
47 @ 27/ I pull 29
1/8 from center
8 strand string

Here is the setup.
Arrow is beaman mfx classic .500
cut to 30.5
insert 14 gr.
125 gr. tip
Feathers/wrap etc. 30 gr. or so..

Weights 470 gr.

Field tip and broadhead are hitting the same from 27 yards. Have shot much past that with the setup.

Should I be concerned that the bareshaft results show really weak?
Blessings,
Steve

well Steve, I guess that depends on if you plan on shooting fully made up arrows or just bare shafts  :)

seriously though, I always end up going by field tip and broadhead comparison. and have found that quite often the bare shafts will show weak even though field tips and broadheads group together.

AKCrazyhorse

Same here.  Bare shafts can really be effected by your release and not all of us (me included) have a world class release.  I adhere to OL's bare shaft planing method both bare shaft to fletched shaft and then field point to broadhead.  Once I get those right I figure that's as good as it gets.

Many thanks... I just gotta put the idea out of my head, that my arrow is weak..

Another personal preference thing................I get the bareshafts going close to perfect compared to my fletched arrows before fletching anything, that's just me.
Broadheads of the same weight as field points will show weak on the same shaft because the arrow got longer. I use a 25 gn heavier FP for comparison purposes.

Interesting Bjorn. Thnx.

I will shot it through paper tomm. To me this will tell the tale...
Blessings,
Steve
