Hit a fence post and broke one of my brand new woodies today. I just made them up and hated the thought of loosing the brand new feathers. I have no idea where the tip went but I was wondering if I could at least salvage the feathers and knock.

The feathers were put on with Fletch tape and the nock was glued on with fletch tite platinum.

I went into the kitchen poundering how to get the adhesives hot enough to remove the feathers and nock without destroying them.  As I sat at the table I spied the microwave.  I broke the shaft down so it would fit in the microwave and started it for 15 seconds.  Pulled the shaft out and the feathers peeled right off and a twist of the nock and it was off too.

The fletch tape was still on the feathers and was tacky so I put it in a clamp and experimented if it would stick to the new wooden shaft or if I would need to add some fletch tite.

To my suprise the tape stuck and held.  Reglued the nock and I'm back in the game with a new arrow with salvaged parts.

Interesting.  Maybe your feathers and nock will also glow in the dark now.   :bigsmyl:  Next time, you might also consider just footing on a new end to your arrow or gluing on a ready made foot like reparrow.

Clever clever. Thanks for the hint

At .16 a shaft I figured I might as well make another arrow since I was able to salvage the nock, feathers and even the fletch tape.  The glow in the dark feathers and nock might come in handy for shooting after dark in the backyard.  I might even be able to corner the market on lighted nocks from a different angle.

Thanks for tip. I think I'll try the fletch tape too next time I order feathers....Phil

A great tip Pac. But you know, the great thing about fletch-tape is that despite it's iron bond, the feather can simply be lifted off with a flat razor blade. Glue can't make the same claim. Great job with the microwave, though. Can't wait to try it...
