i got a new fletching jig for christmas, and am curious about left and right fletching. i am right handed i shoot a bow not cut to center. which should i use and why ? thanks for the help

The only concern is when shooting single bevel broadheads make sure they are the same 'wing' other than that it makes no difference at all.

Tradition would say a right handed shooter should use a left wing fletch.  A few years back LW was hard to find and I geared up to use RW.  It works fine.  Just keep them all the same in your quiver for any given shooting.

If you have a clearance issue on the rest you can compensate by adjusting the shaft nock a few degrees.

Both of the guys above are right on. I have always used left wing and I'm a righty. That was G. Fred's advice years ago, however, it really works either way with the additional advice given. If you choose and stick with one all your arrows forever will match.

Use the fletching that fits your jig!    Had a buddy tell me he made up a dozen arrows with a right wing cock feather and 2 left wing hens. Couldn't figure out why that right wing feather was such a pain to get into the left wing jig. Apparently, or surprizingly, they flew fine!

Jigs come with one of three types of clamps -- straight, right wing or left wing.  You can fletch either wing out of a straight clamp, but should use left wing feathers in a left wing clamp and right wing feathers in a right wing clamp.

I use right wing on arrows with screw on points and left wing on arrows with glue on points. I think that gives my the best breakdown when I grind my own fletch.

that happened i got a rw jig clamp and can only get flu flu fletching in lw so im just gonna buy another clamp and try it out

I assume you're looking at the flu-flu feathers on the 3Rivers site. If you just get full length feathers you open up a whole lot more colors in both wings and it's only $.60 more per dozen. It's pretty easy to cut a piece out of a full length feather to use for flu-flu.

Made a Big difference for me, Im a Lefty, shot LW for 20 years, went to smaller handled L/B's, had feather cuttin my hand alot, went with RW feathers and pretty much cured everything ...

Use which ever suits your fancy, I sometimes carry both LW and RW fletched arrows in the same quiver and they shoot the same, absolutely the same.

I'm a left hand shooter and also have shot both. I started out shooting right wing because thats what everyone said I should do. I found that left wing stuff was more avalible so I switched to left wing. Now I'm back to right wing to use up all the right wing feathers I had laying around. All that to say it really doesn't matter. I also shoot cock feather out, cock feather in, 4 fletch all work just fine.

With my shooting style I have toshoot cock feather in with R/W but they fly fine.I shoot right hand.

I am RH and have had problems w LW feathers. I sometimes had to shoot cock feather in for better arrow flight. Now I think it was the fletch jig I usedback then. I use a bitz now and although RW, have never had arrow flight problems.

if the feather is digging into your hand , try wrapping with some kevlar fly tying thread. a drop of superglue and you shouldnt feel a thing.


as far as wing and fletchers , i use feathers from either wing. as long as the curve of the feather matches , i havent had a problem yet.

and on flu flu's why wouldnt you use one full length feather?

Hov, it depends upon the flu-flu style you're building.
If you do the wrap around version then one or two full length feathers is what you need.
But if you do the four or six fletch of short sections of full profile (height) feathers, then you have a different need.
