I hear a that a lot of folks use surewood arrow shafts. What are they? Please tell me about them. I've been thinking about going back to wood.   :dunno:

Grey. They are Douglas fir shafts. A few sponsors carry them.  Give Tim at Braveheart archery a call he can answer all your questions. Best shaft I've used!

Just Googled Surewood shafts.  Looks like they are Douglas Fir, which makes a nice wooden arrow.  Straighter than most of the cedar I have seen, about 10% higher mass weight (think 600ish grain arras), maybe a bit more weight variance than cedar.  Much more durable, too.

For the year when I was dumb enough to make all my own arrow shafts, douglas fir was my choice.

As mentioned above, Jerry, Surewoods are Douglas Fir.  Surewood Shafts is the company that is producing them.  Most everybody making and/or shooting fir these days is shooting shafts from Surewood.  They are very good shafts, esp if you compare them to most of the POC available these days.  Another good shaft is the Sitka Spruce from Hildebrand.  Pretty tough and quite lightweight.  Doug Fir has been my personal favorite for many years.

i like surewood fir best of all the current crop of available woods ... got another 2 dozen coming from tim at braveheart.

They make a very nice arrow.  I have a couple dozen on the way also.

First coat of dalys profin clear overcoat drying on my 65-70's now. Best shafting I have ever seen ! Gun barrel straight when I got them and after all the staining, painting, etc, still straight ! More than I can say for the POC these days.

NoCams, it's good to hear you've just about got them ready to shoot.
It makes making arrows a pleasure when you have shafts the quality that Surewood Shafts puts out!!!

Good quality shafts. Streight from the git go and tough. Every dozen I have purchased has had only one or two that have needed tweeking to get them streight. Can't go wrong with these shafts.

Archery isn't something I do, it's who I am!
The road to "Sherwood" makes for an awesome journey.

I like Doug fir too.
Noticeably more durable than POC or spruce.

I'm lucky enough to know the fellas that own Surewood. What's been written about their quality arrow shafts is right on the money. Only thing I could add is that the people that run the company are absolute gentlemen and very dedicated to traditional archery.

I agree StanM. They are committed to excellence in what they put in the marketplace and nice guys to be around.

I agree with all of the above!  They are a good quality product, and can be recommended without hesitation!
