I was out testing a new BBO I am making and accidentally robin hooded an arrow, split it back half way through the feathers.

Being a frugal(cheap)sort I decided to recover the shaft so I cut off the shaft a little past the split, added a reparrow, turned the shaft upside down and refletched what was the point end. The end result was a new arrow with cresting on the wrong end.

 

Cool idea. You are lucky it wasn't tapered.  

Hey Eric, a simple thread wrap right in front of the plastic nock (if that was what you were using) will prevent that. I'm cheap also

Chortle!Pretty neat Eric. When I have split an arrow that way, I have just put a Reparrow at the back and refleched it. Don't tell the FOC fanatics but they shoot fine for me.  

did the arrow have run out before ?  Rift ?  By turning it around you may have created an issue for yourself.  If no. .   great idea !

On a slightly cracked robin hood I fill the crack with super glue,clamp and install a new nock, never had one break.

In the above case I didn't just crack the arrow, I blew out one side.

In those cases, if I can find the missing piece, I still glue it back in and put on a new nock.

Philipp Rounsevelle (sp) was doing this 75 years ago!

As to runout, this is a Troy Breeding poplar shaft as near as I can tell. His shafts were as perfect as one could hope for, no runout. Sure do miss old Troy since he went out of the shaft business.

As for tapered shafts, I probably wouldn't fool with retapering the other end but I do have a taper jig for my beltsander and some 5/16 reparrows(for my wife's arrows)and could pull it off if I wanted to spend the time.

Glad you like the Reparrows Eric. I have taught my 17-year-old son and 16-year-old daughter to do the machine operations and that's how they earn spending money. I'm still the setup/millwright/toolmaker guy, so what I get out of it is the joy of having people like the product and get good use out of them. I still get a kick out of using them myself.

Eric, I have shot a bow for almost 40 years nowand have only had tree robin hood arrows....they all are retired on a rack....now there is a differance between frugal and cheap......  

They make nice self nocks, too.  

Now Scattershot, you need to explain that those were made with limited production nock reparrows with standard nock tapers. I still have a few of those blanks!

I have robin hooded dozens of arrows in the last 20 years. Only a couple were on purpose, the rest were completely accidental.

They worked great, Jim, and I have made several from the original Reparrows, too.
