I'm looking into elk hunting 2011 in WY unit 34.  Any info from guys that have hunted there or residents in the area would be appreciated.

I hunted 10 days in 34 last season; did not see one elk. A buddy of mine has a cabin in 34, and he and his son hunted several days and finally rifle killed a spike. It was very dry during bow season, and for some unknown reason, the elk just weren't around. I saw them before the season in good numbers, but in September they were ghosts. I'm not trying to discourage you, however, because 34 has a good population of elk on the national forest. If they move to private ground, which shouldn't be a problem in bow season, the ranchers either won't allow access or will charge an arm and a leg.
If you draw, get in touch with me, as I plan on expending some more boot leather in 34 next year. There is some beautiful country in that area, and lots of space for camping. And if I were you, I would bring a fly rod in case the elk are being invisible.

That coincides with what the outfitter said about last year.  It was tough finding them, worst he's seen in a while.  Only shot one bull for 3 guys.

Pix don't show here at work but I look forward to seeing them when I get home.

Awesome pix.  Beautiful country.  Is it too early to get stoked?
