I have a B.W. recurve with B.W. stringer will this work on a longbow? what is your favorite?

I would use a ONLY a longbow stringer for a longbow, instead of the stringer that is designed for a recurve. The "cups" are a little different..Thats just my opinion. Better be safe then sorry.

my fave "stringer" is my right foot and a good push/pull with my hands.  

i would never recommend not using a bow stringer if you don't understand how to do it properly, and how to take great care not to get hurt - or worse yet, seriously hurt and lose an eye.

as already mentioned, bow stringers that use limb tip cups must fit the limb tips properly.  if not, and the cups can't be tweaked to fit, use a different bow stringer.

Black Widow supplies the same stringer with their longbows and their recurves. As Rob said above, make sure it fits.

I prefer the limb tip stringers like Widow sends with their bows over the limb stringer.  They appear to put an even pressure to both limbs.

I make my own for my heavy LB's. At least 10 years worth. Very safe & secure. E-mail for pix & directions.

I also make mine but then I only shoot recurves so far.

Mine has the bottom limb in a leather cup & the top limb in a slider made with a rubber hose, very secure & so far I've yet to have an issue.

I like the Selway for my recurves, it allows the string to slip down the limb or come right off, and used a double leather cap purpose-designed stringer for my longbow.  (Came with the bow).

10-4 on the limb saver stringers. They make em for long bows and recurves.

The Webster stringer is my favorite.

As Rob mentions, very knowledgeable folks have lost or damaged eyes stringing without stringers. I twisted the limb on a RH Black Widow using the "step-through" method. Cost me $75 bucks to have it fixed.  I haven't found a stringer I like that works for all my bows. The pockets are too deep or too narrow for some of my tips. I sometimes use the kind that fit down the limb a bit instead of on the tip but it feels like I've added 10 pounds to the draw weight when trying to string with this beast.

My favorite to date isn't actually a string.  It came with one of my bows (sorry, I can't remember which bow--"The Stick"?  This one is a strap with pockets made of the same material. It is especially comfortable on the soles of bare feet.  Because the strap is about 3/4" wide instead of a narrow string the bow and stringer seem more stable throughout the process as the stringing web doesn't try to roll.

I just googled the "Webster".  This is very similar, although maybe a bit more adjustable (which is good) to the "strap" type I describe above. It's a bit pricey (at least at the website below) at $31.00 (about twice what I'd expect to pay).

Do any Trad Gang sponsors sell the "Webster"? I just checked 3Rivers and it isn't listed. I found it on a MAJOR auction site for $12.95 which is a lot better than "Abbey", but I'd rather buy from a Trad Gang sponsor.

The webster appears to have two sizes of limb pockets for the upper limb (string and unstring end). This looks better than mine. I'll throw away (actually store away) all my other stringers in favor of the web-type.

These web-types don't get knots in their either.

i just bought a webster from joe skip.he is a sponser.he had only one listed,but i'll bet he knows where to get another one.i have used it on all of my bows and it works.i have 4 selfbows.several longbows and some recurves.it has two different heads to go with any bow.it only costs about 15 bucks.one bow is a static tip recurve which is a pain to string without twisting a limb.this stringer does it with no problem.hope this helps,steve
