Is there a way to seal arrows other then gasket laquer.I want to whip up some woodies.I have used gasket laquer in the past an would like to try something new or differnt.thankyou for your help.

go to your local hardware store (where i get most of my supplies) and most will have sum short of spray varnish or what i use is minwax soft luster finish i dip my shafts and it works great

for me, i seal and finish all my woodies with min-wax gloss wipe-on polyu.  easy, fast and not too stinky as you can get with spraying.  for me, this is as good as dipping, but without the mess or fuss and it only takes a rubber glove and a small swatch of 100% cotton t-shirt.  you can prestain the wood before applying the clear coats.

if the stink is an issue, try min-wax water based polyu - no smell at all and the finish cures hard and tight.

I wipe on a couple coats of tung oil.

Watco is a good finsh. It comes in colors so it acts as a stain and sealer.

I've always used wipe on poly.
It's easy enough.

Poly is good if you don't shoot 3D. It burns into the 3D targets, making it very difficult to pull the arrows and messing up the finish. The lacquers are better for that, but poly works great for everything else.

I went back to wood about 3 months ago and use 3coats of minwax polycrylic with excellent results. Very little odor.

I use Sherwin-Williams waterborne poly, gloss finish in quart can.  Mix 1 to 1 ratio with water to thin.  Dip once before crest and four after.  2 to 8 hours between coats.  Like stated above, it does burn in foam targets, spraying silicone on bottom of shaft before I shoot does make removal from target easier.

Keep your coats thin and oil base polys, like Minwax Fast Dry or Zar, won't have target burn issues.  Spar urethanes and the water base polys are softer and will "burn".  Tire gloss, silicone or even motel soap can help prevent it and make the arrows easier to pull.

I just finished sealing several shafts with gasket lacquer.  I'm intrigued now.  I'll have to try the minwax poly on the next batch.  Thanks for the idea!
