no..no.no  not that, i used to get higher in treestands, but as age creeps up on me i find that im getting closer to the ground.
i have been 30 ft. up and felt comfortable, but not anymore.im kinda liking around 18 ft.(to the platform on my stands)...actually ive killed more deer from the ground than from stands anyway...how high do you get?

Mudd

About 6-8 inches and that's just one foot at a time while stalking.

Orion

I'll be 65 in a couple of months.  Have seldom placed my stands more than 12-14 feet off the ground since they became legal in this state more than 30 years ago.  Shot angle just becomes too poor much above that.

reddogge

Amen Orion.  Plenty high enough.

LoneWolf

12-15 feet is high enough for me.  Had a friend who would be 30 feet up a tree everytime.  I only got higher than 15 when it was pitch black and I didn't realize my rope to my stuff on the ground had gotten tight.

Depends on wind and cover, I like to stay as low as I feel I can get away with. I have 22 feet of rope attached to my climber. Have only gotten near that high once all year in some very bare maple trees with no background cover. I probably end up 14-17 ft most of the time.

bigbadjon

18 feet to the platform wherever possible. Sometimes lower if there are no suitable trees. If it needs to be lower than 14 feet we usually put up a tripod or hunt from the dirt.

I set my stands about 15 feet. In my favorite tree my stand is 8 feet up.  I've killed 6 deer from that tree...

I select trees that provide cover to hide me well at 15-18'.  I feel very exposed if I'm under 15' high. I no longer will use a tree that is limbless for my stands. I love limby eastern red cedar trees, trees in fence rows, or on the edge of a woodlot where ample sunlight has provided for the growth of this limb cover. I also clear out around my stand than I used to. I simply want a couple of shooting lanes.

Buckeye Trad Hunter

I try to stay around 15 feet.  I do go higher sometimes in my climber if necessary but I find myself using it less and less and hunting from the ground more and more.

Age 50, I decided this year to keep my feet on the ground. Bought an enclosed ground blind plus a portable blind to setup with no roof, ajustable hieght, and weight is 1.6 lbs. Straps on my backpack and away I go. Lets me move around alot more.

Steelhead

I average about 17-18 ft.

I used to hunt higher.Around 22 ft on average.

I think the higher heights do allow your scent to blow over a deers head Sometimes.Especially when thier close and thiers a nice steady wind.

Huntschool

12-14 ft at the most....  Thats it for me.

20-25 is what I climb to but, my hang on is at 16'.... I like my hang on the best....

Depends.  In Pa some spots light cover so 30' but here in Tx they call bushes trees so 10' is best you can find/get

18ish.  is my norm. Seldom higher with a bow...

macksdad

There is a lot of guys in my area that hunt with those wheeled bows, and they all like to get like 20 feet or higher. I like to stay under 15 feet. It seems to work for me.

Seldom go higher than 15ft anymore...don't like steep shot angles and feel a little uneasy going much more than that anymore.
