Bought some VPA Terminators and was sent some of there new small game heads to try out.  Got a couple of spots that I would like to rabbit hunt with them.  Would love some imput on building flu flus. Does anybody build them using carbons?  Could you show some pictures?

i build them using carbons. you can either 3-4-or-6 fletch them. i do not do heilical. there pretty tough i use walmart and gold tip arrows for them

I build exclusively spiral wrapped and believe that they outperform the 4 or 6 fletch by a lot.

I have built them on wood, aluminum and carbon.

They work fine on any shaft.  Like any arrows they work better off a smooth rest.  They seem to do fine on a fallaway or flex rest as well.

I use a spiral fletch. Uses only one full length feather and the arrow gets slowed way down in 30 yards. I suggest trying one of each style test for yourself. I found out because I'm too damn cheap to put 4-6 feathers on an arrow.

ive never tried to spiral fletch an arrow it sounds like a pain to constantly glue and wrap feathers as you go. i might have to try it though. is there a tutoral out there on this?

Beman MFX Classic 500 carbon flu flus, four fletch.

I've use full height 6 fletch for years and thought it was the way too go.  Tried some spiral a few months ago and now we are planning on building a few dozen for our elk hunt next fall.  Gotta have grouse arrow!!

I love the spiral, easy to do and with one feather you get about 50 yds travel, with 2 about 25.  I think we will be using 2.

I don't glue as I go, I use fletch tape and just glue the ends. (For spirals). I like using tail feathers from turkey.

I use heavy duty paper clips (wedge shaped)

I trim about 1/2" of quill from each end of a full elngth feather.

I liked 9" feathers but the are getting hard to find with this commercial grade only crap!

The feather must have the quill ground tin or it will break during the wrap.  Certain brands are too thick - but I won't trash any brands out loud - you wil have to figure that out!

I glue the firsat 1" than place it under the calmp at the nock end.  I spiral with the bend of the feather.  I know some folk wrap the opposite way, but  find that is just too much noise and drag.

The I add glue to all but the last 3/4 inch and wrap down keeping the quill about 5/16" separation.

The very end is TRICKY!  You have to hold it down with one finger while you add the last drop of glue and the clamp.

You are like to ave a few unravels until you get the hang of it.  Expect a few @$#&^^&$R%$  out of your mouth as well!

I think I have now made somewhere over 5000 of them in my time so I have gotten pretty good at it.

I do it a bit different than either of the tutorials above.

I finish off when dry by carefully trimming the end quills with arazor knife and wrapping both ends with the thin elctrical tape.  It comes in many colors so cna ad a bit of flare to your flu-flu.
