I am looking at a little bighorn and other bighorns. Anyone out there with experience shooting these bows? Fit,finish and how do they shoot?

I am a recurve guy so I can talk only for the Custom recurve.The first model designed from Fred is for sure the more interesting for a collector,it was very quiet and stable without wistles and bells but a really tough bow also if not a speed demon.Then they redesigned the limb beds in the 90's with some improvment in the draw but not really much better.The company was then sold to KOM(King of the Mountain) and they changed the geometry of the limbs the cores started to make a customisation as we know today.They are been the very best Bighorns ever made as craftmanship and performances.They remained quiet,forgiving and accurate but much faster.I think a KOM Bighorn is still one of the best bow you can buy.Good deal too since it is overlooked by mosts.

2 months ago I bought a Ron Maulding BH longbow from Leo. It's all I've used since. My 5 Hills are on break. Smooth draw & powerful at 75# to zing a heavier arrow with ease. PM for more if you want.

I love my 60" takedown recurve.  The grip just feels to me exactly as a bow grip should.

Thanks for the info. No fishing here just looking for info on the bows. I saw it on classifieds and have no experience with the bows. Just trying to get info before making a purchase. Thanks anyway.

My dad shoots a Bighorn.  It's has one of the smoothest draw cycles of any bow I've handled and is a hard-hitter.

It's all I've shot for about 15 or so years.

That's Rich Burch.  He is the new owner who inherited Ron Nelson's mess.  I have 2 Grand Slam recurves and 1 longbow.  I love them.

cacciatore has a good handle on the story of this bow design.  I have one of the early one's from Fred and his crew(80's). The old curved limb bed next to the riser. My 1st custom bow. Smooooth as butter! Not the fastest shooter but the rest makes up for it. The 1st limbs delaminated due to glue issues. Had another set made and just a super shooter. The flat limb beds I am told are faster but the ones I shot were too close to matter on FPS. Very good bows for a good price now.

Here is one of the best looking shooting recurve bow ever made:the 1996 Special Edition.Made during the KOM era.

This masterpiece made of Gabon Ebony-Sankewood riser,checkered grip-Bighorn sheep overlays;Osage,Red Elm,snakewood veneers and again Bighorn sheep tips.I think it inspired many bowyers and my mind goes to Norm Johnson with his beautiful Snakebit.

I had their first brochure sent to me from Fred,Great looking bow,heck I wish I still had that.Gave all my brochures to St.Judes last year.
Theres not much my buddy Felix doesn't know about recurves,heck I keep bugging him if his English was a tad better he could write a Encyclopedia on Recurves!LOL.

Wow, what a beautiful bow!  Seems like I was studying these bows about 10 years ago and the Special Editions were something else -- very expensive if I recall -- $2,000+?

Yes Roy,the cost was $2000 for the 96 and 2500 for the 97.I'll try to post some pics of the 97,only one made.
