Do any moose hunters out there have an opinion on the best time to hunt moose in Ontario NW of the Sudbury?  My hunting buddies always want to go the last week of September and the first week of October.  From what I have seen hunting and heard from others is that we are hunting at least a week to late.  What do you think.  Thanks

My birthday is the 29th of September. Around here the week that its in is usually the best.
It's really simple. Just don't take those borderline shots. Tomorrow is another day.

I've been hunting and guiding moose hunters for a long time and have taken around 35 bulls myself, 4 with bow. THEE absolute best time to hunt moose is the last 3 days in Sept. and the first week in Oct. In moose country with little wind, you'll do well.

25 Sept. to 10 Oct. is considered the best of the rut around here and my personal experience confirms that as the best time.  Bob

Sounds good to me. I think this moose season marked my fiftieth.

I live further north so the best two weeks here are slightly earlier... probably September 20 to October 5 (which is still darn close to what has already been stated).

This year we killed one bull in the last week of September and the other in the first week of October... but then of course, that is when we are hunting.

If you have a lot of competition, it might be worthwhile to head in a few days earlier, but if it's warm, your plan might backfire.
May your next adventure lighten your heart, test your spirit, and nourish your soul.

We play this game every year. Weather is the key and as of late there is no figgerin it out. Some years we go first two weeks of season and some last two weeks. It's all weather I'm afraid.

I've hunted North of Sault Ste. Marie, Nipigon and north of Kenora and have found it to be best the last week of September and into the first week of October. The earlier you go you have to contend with warm weather and black flies and the later you go you have the rifle hunters in setting up camp, scouting and shooting birds. All of my moose have been taken on 27,28,29 and Oct 1st. A windless day with a nice heavy frost the night before in that time period is the best you can ask for.

Thanks for the input.  My moose hunting partners will love saying "I told you so"
