Just got in a Martin Savannah from a trade with a t-ganger.

This was my first time shooting a longbow, or short R/D American longbow or whatever it actually is.

MY WORLD HAS CHANGED!!

This bow is so much smoother than the recurves I've shot.

The recurves seemed to have a different "powerband".
As if they had some extra omph in the middle of the shot.

This savannah is smooth all the way.

It's like the difference between a 66 MGB and a 1968 Cadillac Coupe de Ville for me. The sports car was fun for a while but I could be comfortable for life in the Caddy. ( Don't happen to have either anymore )

Not bashing recurves. No way.
I'm not that ignorant.

Just had a personal revelation tonight and wanted to talk about it with some people that might understand.

I had been hooked on trad archery.
But I think I just took the line and sinker too.

Thanks all.

Shot a friend of mines last week. Was also impressed with its smoothness and cast.

Welcome to heaven. The long bow took me there too, and I really loved archery before that. Wait till you shoot one nicer then the martin. No offense to martin.
I will give thanks to the LORD because of his righteousness and will sing praise to the name of the LORD Most High.

Hey Jerry,
None taken.
I've already thought the about that...lol
I'm gonna wait to get to know her a little better before I start sniffin around for something else.
Course lookin just comes natural.   :knothead:

I ended up with a TD longbow last spring by accident just talking to a tradganger that told me to give one a try, I now own several and plan to add more, I feel the same way, much smoother and quieter than my curves in my opinion. I also now enjoy shooting even more than before if thats possible!

I have the Savannaha long bow, it pulls 55 pounds and pull like a 50 pound bow because it is so smooth. They shoot really fast.

A Savannah is a great shooting bow in my opinion,I have many custom bows and they are fine shooters also. But I have five Martin/Howatt bows.

Yep it's hard to beat that even flow created by the longbow.  When pulling one that is well built you build energy at the same rate (3# per inch) through out the draw and hopefully get to your drawlength before the string gets to 90 degrees from the tip angle (stacking).

I find that most folks are longbow or curve people and not many are both.

Ummm, Zradix, if that bow took you to heaven and changed your attitude toward archery, why would you, in your own words, "start sniffing around for something else"?  Sounds like you found Nirvana already, my friend.  :D

My Defiant is 62" and for my 30" draw it feels much lighter than the stated 62# @ 28"

Cool ain't it Zradix! Get in line. After trying my 1st hunting LB so many years ago it's all I've used since. Not knocking recurves either. I've shot a bunch of them. Try a 68-70" LB for awhile. Whistle slick.

I just came over also.  Bought a td Horne and feel super confident with it.  So much flatter shooting than my recurve, quieter and natural feeling.  And I loved shooting my recurve.
The season gave him perfect mornings, hunter's moons and fields of freedom found only by walking them with a predator's stride.

Until today,  I owned 4 recurves.  Ive been looking for another bow......
Last week just by chance,  shot a Dakota t.d. longbow.  Felt like it pulled 10# lighter than it was marked.  I shot it about 15 times....I liked it.  Other than this,  I have spent no time with a long bow.  But things are about to change.....as I recently sold 2 of the recurves,  to be replaced with a brand new ACS CX ST 14" Zircote riser with tonkin cane bamboo limb upgrade,  62" bow  50 - 53# @ 28".  Im hoping to heck I like it.....but have a feeling it will be a little more than "like"!  Cant wait to see......should be here in 6 weeks or so.
