I like wool. My daughter works at pendelton.
I've heard it said that Christianity is a crutch.  To me, it's a walking stick to use on the path of life.

I've got lots of camo.  Wear it hunting all the time.  But I like wool in the winter, and I'm no more likely to drop $500 on a jacket or $740 on a wool parka from Sleeping Indian than I am to buy a Lamborgini to drive to work.  There is certainly cheaper wool; I sure like my Columbia bibs.  But how can you beat Teresa Asbell's plaid wool Mackinaw at $76 on top of a polarfleece or $5 thrift store wool shirt liner?  And it is two piece so it is easy to layer or adjust for temp.

Plus, you don't look like a Posse Comitatus militia member wearing it into town.

I didn't mean to sound like I'm camo bashing either. I wear it sometimes too. I just love wool and prefer it. It's warmer for ME in the cold. Wool camo and plaid. The plaid I wear is more economical and better quality than the camo I can afford.

I'm 56 and going on 57. I fear plaid would make me look 57 going on 58. My 7-year old, 48" tall grandson already says, as he looks up at me, that he's taller and faster than I am.

YORNOC

Gotta love those little ones! My youngest son LOVES camo. If I'm not wearing it, in his opinion, I'm not doing it right.

That funny YORNOC. My girlfriends 9yr old boy says his favorite color is camo.

Whatever I can find at the right price..... Hunt with the wind, hold still, wash with no UV brightener detergent and pattrern becomes irrevelent.

I don't bash camo.  I wear mismatched camo in the warm weather and mix and match wool plaid coat and camo pants and hat in winter.  Nothing, I mean nothing, matches in my outfits.  I even wear mismatched gloves for right and left hand, one camo with rubber nubs for bow hand and one brown cotton with shooting fingers cut out on string hand.

Here's my winter outfit.

In my case it IS an anti-camo thing and has absolutely nothing to do with price.

I am not in the military and I don't want to look like something I am not when / if I stop somewhere on the way home.

Lots of different opinions out there and that is mine and I make no apologies.

I envy the quotes of "early season is cotton plaid". In Texas early season can be near 100 degrees. I can't tell you how many sits were in boxers and a t-shirt.

I've worn wool and plaids most of my life,If it isn't broke don't fix it.So warm and quiet.
Quote from Howard Hill.( Whenever he taught someone to shoot) "Son make up your mind right now if you want to target shoot or hunt as theres a world of differance between the two"

I really like my Sitka camo clothes, but more for the function of the clothing than the camo pattern.  There is a certain romance in the old plaids and I've killed more than a couple deer wearing old school plaid.

This picture is one of my favorites and you can't believe how many comments (most of them negative) it got me from guys who saw it.  I just laughed.  Notice how while the Advantage pants (actually bibs) match the forest floor pretty well, the coat would be VERY close to the bark on this tree.  By the way, it is the same pattern as one of Rob Tiberio's Classic Bowman patterns.

Also, FWIW, right now my local Wal-Mart has tons of shirt-jacs on sale, several of which would be quite functional as bowhunting garb.  Faded Glory is one brand.  Cheap, warm, soft, quiet...if that's your style, better go check 'em out.

Plaid is camo, so I too have difficultly understanding the question.

huskyarcher

I almost exclusivley wear it now, except for my ghillie suit on occasion, i am begining to think that camo is for humans, as i have had a ton of deer ALL OVER me and pay no mind. Most of my stuff is Red too!

I wear plaid wool, it is better at fooling deer than any bought pattern.

QuoteI dont quite get the anti camo thing either. Well maybe...I guess its like someone who chooses a selfbow over a laminated bow...or a recurve over a longbow? Or a baseball cap over a boonie.... Just a personal preference? I like camo, I don't think it works any better than a good plaid, but I like it. When its cold I usually have on some type of wool plaid, just because its a lot more available at better prices than wool camo of the same quality. But if the cost was the same I'd have the wool camo, because I love the look of it. Those Asbell pullovers are looking pretty darn good though!!!
I use what works the best.

Michigan deer have learned to watch out for people wearing camo.

Non camo clothing might be considered an unfair advantage.  :D
