Yesterday was our last day to hunt bucks, and since I have a doe in the freezer, I don't need any more meat. I passed this year on several bucks in an attempt to 'let them grow' and maybe have some bigger deer in the future.
So, this morning, I went to pull a stand in my main whitetail area, and when I leave, I see Mr. Big, a wide, heavy 5x5. I watched him for several minutes as he freshened a scrape and looked at me in a very unconcerned manner. The sucker has to know that he is off limits.  This is the first time this year that I have seen this particular buck, after putting in well over 40 days in the area. They don't get big by being dumb!!   :knothead:

In the beginner's mind there are many possibilities. In the expert's there are few...So the most difficult thing is always to keep your beginner's mind...This is also the real secret of the arts: always be a beginner.  Shunryu Suzuki

Nice, hope you get to hunt him next season.

I wish him luck throughout the rest of the year.

Thats better than watching someone else dragging it out of the woods. You have patience and a great attitude, you will get him next year for sure.

I would REALLY like to know WHO it is that supplies them a calender, and a game law book for each individual state.

I remember a giant doe in my yard destroying my apple trees on the day AFTER archery season closed. I had a feeling, and went outside to see how close I could get, and at fifteen yards, she jumped, and LAID HER EARS BACK, with a strip of hair standing on her back. She stiff legged out of my yard, as I stared in disbelief.

You have to admit, some of your most satisfying hunts are those where you could have, but didn`

Friends call me Pac

When I was a young boy around 8 years old my father took me hunting behind the house. I exspect he was just indulging me in a pretend hunt.

I say pretend hunt because #1 he didn't bow hunt and #2 deer were seldom if ever seen at the edge of our lawn.  I think we might have been 50 yards from the front door.  It didn;t matter becasue at the time we were hunting at least in my mind.

We sat on a fallen log until it started to get dark then we headed back to the house.  As we walked home I asked dad why we didn't see any deer?  He told me there was a big calendar in the woods and the animals checked it daily so they would know if it was hunting season or not.  I believed that story for the longest time but over the years i had forgotten it.

"I would REALLY like to know WHO it is that supplies them a calender, and a game law book for each individual state."

This statement brought the memory back instantly. Two people from two different states, hmmmm it might just be for real.
