I don't make it a habit of posting pix like this one but several Tradgang members have been asking about the kind of blood trail the VPA heads are capable of producing so here's an example.  I've taken several deer and turkeys with the 250 grain Terminator model and the amount of crimson it puts on the ground is pretty impressive. Even I can follow it! Yes, regardless of the head used you still need to make a good shot - no doubt about that, and any sharp, well designed, head placed in the right spot will do the job.  That being said I have to say that I'm more than impressed with the Terminators flight characteristics, penetration, and resulting wound channels.  Did I mention that they're tough?

Wow, that's impressive.

It looked like someone walked through the woods with a paint bucket splattering red pigment from both ends.  The arrow passed through both lungs of the 2 yr old doe and stuck 4 inches into the ground . . . deer traveled maybe 30 yards and collapsed. I say it was the result of the shot and head but Uncle Barry seems to think the crooked hat had something to do with it:^)

I have to agree with you, and I will say, my opinion only, these could be the all around best head I have ever used ALL THINGS CONSIDERED. durability, ease of sharpening, available weights, flight characteristics, penetration,blood on the ground, quiet. Did I forget anything? They are unreal.

Wow. Do you sharpen them on a flat stone?

I see a real bloody deer, but not a bloody trail.  I would have to assume it would be a good trail based on the deer unless it did all that bleeding after laying down there.  I really like the VPA and plan to get more weights to fit all my bows for next year.  The 175 has been a great head in all respects.

I have completely switched over to using VPA's...by far the best head I have used out of my setups.

Bobco, yes a flat diamond hone is what I use then strop on a magazine with one of the very glossy covers or a ceramic stick very lightly only, just the weight of the head basically , no real effort to sharpen these heads. also the edge comes back quicker with less effort than other heads it seems I would say due to the trueness of the grind.Try you will not be let down. i forgot to mention economical when you consider the durability factor, another post has a "ganger" killing 19 hogs I believe with same head. I would love to be in hog country!

I think I will give them a try, never heard of them before. I have always been a fan on non-vented heads.

There are Terminators in my quiver, too.      Excellent heads that fly wonderfully!  I really like the heavy weights and how quick and easy they sharpen.  

Yes Todd, the trail was as red and profuse as it probably can get. When following through I saw the arrow exit the opposite side of the deer and bury deep into the ground.  Not a small feat as anyone from my home state (KY) will tell you, our turf has experineced a terrible drought so the ground was pretty hard before the recent heavy rain.  The deer sprinted about 25 yards with red blowing out both sides, began to stagger and then collapsed. Total distance, about 35 yards.  The trail was very impressive.  Even though I saw her fall I took up the blood trail out of curiousity.  I was a bowhunter education instructor for 20 years and always told my students to follow every blood trail that they made, even if they saw the deer fall, as you can always learn something. I was shooting a 60 pound Morrison ILF, an Axis N-Fused shaft tipped with a 250 gr. Terminator. I do not use any stones whatsoever when sharpening my Terminators.  I prefer the edge produced with a single direction file only, which can work great once yu develop the "feel" if you will.  In 1985 my old friend Fred Bear showed me how to use a file to create and maintain an effective hunting edge on 2 and 3 blade heads and I never looked back.  A lot of guys prefer a finer edge, and that's fine too, but I prefer my method because it's quicker and is effective.  If you doubt it take another look at the photo I posted:^)
