I am looking a grain scales for arrow making and I have a question. If you have tried both do you prefer the convenience of the digital scale to the accuracy of the balance beam? Also what kind of life expectancy would I get out of the digital scale?

Lucas. I have both and prefer the digital for it's ease of use. Used the beam for years though. It was finicky but accurate. Same reading as my digital. If you like I would give you a deal on the beam. Hows free sound? Pm me if interested.

I use both for reloading....but I grab the digital every time when doing arrows.

Don't even know where my balance beam is anymore.

I will go with the digital every time , like said above it is much easyer and gives me a very accurate reading!! The only problem I had at first was the arrows wanted to roll. To fix that I took two strips of fletch tape about 1/8" apart taped to the center of the face plate then put two strips of serving stuck to this. The arrows or any other round oblect stays in place.

I use a digital for arrows for ease and quickness and a balance beam for reloading.

Digital for sure, like the others can't find the RCBS balance beam scale either.

You can get a digital scale a lot cheaper. I think I paid around 25.00 for mine at Cabella's. It will read up to 1000 grns. My RCBS beam scale only goes to 550 with the added weight.

I'm the odd man out here. I prefer the balance beam grain scale from Lyman. Mine is the Lyman Pro Archer's Scale. It can weigh up to 1005 grains.

Digital here also. I got one from 3 rivers years ago for about $25. Still works great and I use it a lot.

Digital. I got a Dillon D-Terminator back when I reloaded and it's invaluable for arrow making. I can't imagine weighing hundreds of shafts on my old RCBS balance beam scale.
