Well, I get out this morning and setup on the southeast side of a ridge.

After about 20 minutes I hear movement up behind me and see this.  I figure she'll just wander on past down the ridge.

Well she had other ideas and came down the ridge to about 25 yards and bedded down.  I couldn't believe it, how am I supposed to get in a postion to shoot a deer thats gonna come up the ridge any minute?

Well sure enough about five minutes later here come two bucks up the ridge toward me at 50 yards one of them a decent looking 6 pointer

Tried really carefully to get in position for a shot at the buck but couldn't keep an eye on both my target deer and my "watcher" and the six-point busted me first.  He proceeded to bound back down the ridge and "watcher" stayed put another five minutes and slowly got up and wandered away.

Anyway, thats just a goofy story that happened this morning and I thought I would share as I have never had that happen before.  Even though I didn't get a shot it was still a great, though a chilly 18, morning in the woods.
Eric.

That's why they call it 'huntin' instead of gettin, me thinks!

I've had that happen to me only 1x... doe and fawn of the year, bedded 15 yards away, fed around me for 20 min after their hour nap...and I had no doe tag!  :)

A811...the thought did cross my mind.  I did take a practice draw with no arrow as she quartered away from me.  Eric.

Over the years I have had deer bed close by numerous times.. Once they do, and get relaxed, you can get by with murder.. It seems like they have decided everything with a small radius is safe and threats will come from a distance..
Notice it was one of the bucks that busted you, not the bedded doe.
If tehy do bust you, you can almost see the horror on their face at you being so close.

Last year I had a pretty decent buck bed down 10 yards in front of me behind a bush just as dark was getting close. Never offered a shot and was still there when it got too dark to see. I stayed in the tree an hour after dark waiting on him to leave! I finally climbed down and he was gone. No idea when he left.....

I had that happen at the edge of dark several years ago...The doe came right next to my tree steps and squeezed between the pine I was in and a small ceder tree that was abot 18 " apart from one another...She laid within 3 yards  near some other ceders and I waited till dark and had to get down cause it was way passed quiten time...Really neat to see them just lay near you...

LITTLEBIGMAN

fun to have them lay down like that. It so cool just to watch them do their normal stuff when they aren't alarmed. I never get tired of it. such amazing animals to be sure

I think the deer do not fear my shooting ability since I have had deer, bucks and does over the years bed within 30 yards of me.

Those are some really great pictures.

Rubber blunts are good for spooking off bedded deer from around your stand! Always carry a couple in the quiver.

Great picts and a great story.  You have more snow in Missouri than we have in Maine.
The season gave him perfect mornings, hunter's moons and fields of freedom found only by walking them with a predator's stride.

You must be pretty close to the Iowa border if You have snow on the ground.

Great pictures!!

Very cool pics.  I never seem to have my camera with me when these sorts of things happen.
