Who sells 45-50# 5/16 cedar shafts..Most I see in that size are 40-45..Not looking for sitka or any other wood..thanks

If you find 5/16 cedar shafts that spine a true 50#'s that don't cost a fortune please let me know...Van

There are a few of us that would like to know that one too.

I have got them a few times from Rose City and a true 50#. But you have to get the owner to check through the bins.

Cant you get 11/32 and have them tapered to 5/16

Trying to stay as close to center shot as possibe so tapper shafts don't help

it's hard to find 45-50# spine 5/16" shafts of any wood genus these dayze.

mike @ maddog archery did a  topic post  about using 5/16" woodcrafter birch dowels to make cheap $1 arrows.  his resulting 29" arrows spine in around 40#.  

i bought a hundred of these dowels ($16 + shipping!) and can vouch for the spine rating as well.  i've made up six 29" arrows and they all fly well outta my 50-55# longbows.

so far, i've just cut the shafts to length and tapered the ends for nocks and points.  the birch is extremely straight grained and the pencil taper tools shaves the wood beautifully in a long micro wood ribbon (much better than poc and other arrow woods).  i'm using 70-100 grain field points for a final weight range of between 480-515 grains.  i haven't yet experimented with adding tail weight (via an internal nail, using the braveheart/3rivers nail footing jig) but no question that will stiffen up the spine to perhaps 45-50 ... need to trial that out.

personally, i think too much weight is put on shaft/arrow spine numbers, at least from my perspective.  even with a close cut arrow window, i have no issues with weak spined arrows if i do my job right, which is to aim the arrow and not the bow.  as always, ymmv!  

I bought some 5/16" 40-45# and 45-50# spine Norway pine from 3Rivers many years ago.They flew just great out of my selbows with no shelf,rare to find a 5/16" POC above a 40# spine in my experience.

I think they are out there,,Maybe compressed cedars if they still do that,,I jumped on the carbon craze now want to go back to wood,Like every one else I have droped weight and going back to basic,yea even split finger,may even find me a rock and sling shot...

the problem with tappered shafts is they are usually 23/64 down to 5/16  I am looking for straight 5/16 to keep it close to center..Might try Jim Curley..

I may be wrong, best to call wapiti and find out, but I think the 5/16 is tapered to 9/32.  I know their 23/64 and 11/32 are tapered to 5/16.

ANY *tapered* 5/16" shaft will be at least 9/32" at the nock end, and that alone will weaken the spine.

yes 5/16 is tappered to 9/32,,but I was needing 45-50# spine therfore a no go..

Check with Don Stokes through the directory,he does magnolia(super cedars) barrel tapered shafts and the barrel taper when shot (paradox-ing)could act the same a your center shot your looking for.

Floodman; just checked my stash, the 5/16 I got from Rose City a few years ago contained shafts ranging from 50-60# yes, I said 60!
I asked the owner to send me the stiffest 5/16 he found. It took a while and that is what I got. Give them a call.
