I know I won't get full on this bird, but it was sure a lot of fun this Thanksgiving afternoon.  I went out with my german shorthaired pointer, Rudy, and after a short walk he locked up on point.  I eased up along side of him and she exploded out of the fence row.  I swung passed her and let the string slip from my fingers.  The arrow raced towards her and she was clipped by the snaro's looped wires.  Rudy made the short retrieve and I had my trophy. I hope everyone else is getting out with their flu flus.

Nice pics, congrats!  What bow are you shooting?

OkKeith

Ummmm... that's not some sort of songbird is it?

To be honest, I'm not real familiar with Idaho gamebirds.

The bow is a Centaur Chimera and the bird is a hen California Quail.  In the top pic, you can barely see the little top notch on her.

One shot, one kill. Congrats on a great shot. And yes you may need to suplement some ham, turkey and venison with that game bird.

Good lookin dog.

And yes I am jelous, it looks cold out there and you with no gloves, ball cap, tee shirt and maybe an opened fleece jacket. Yes I am old and its true the older you get the more cloths you need.  :D

You give me hope.  Going for pheasant on the 2nd of Dec.  I've had my son throwing Nerf balls in the air.  I miss more than I hit, but I do hit the target.  Nice shooting!  Pretty puppy too.

That is one thing nice about upland game birds, as long as I keep moving and it's not windy, I can get away with lighter layers which makes shooting a lot easier.

Jeremy - Good luck on your pheasant hunt.  Make sure that you are practicing getting your shots off fast.  Speed is your friend on rising birds.  So if your son is just tossing up the Nerf, make sure you are hitting it before it peaks or worse dropping.  One drill you might try is have him stand next to you and throw an under-hand spiral away from you.  Once again catch it before it peaks and you will be much more prepared for the real thing.  If you want some serious practice, get out the clay pigeons and thrower.

Rudy is a beautiful dog.  Congrats on the quail also!!!
What would you attempt to do, if you knew you could not fail?

Thought you'd stolen my dog there for a minute.  I think GSP's are the best thing going if you enjoy the outdoors.
