i need to build a backstop behind my target range due to the new house added in by the neighbors. i need some ideas that would make a good backstop that could stop the arrows without hurting the arrows. also i need to be able to leave it out all yearround.
thanks,
steven

I use the black rubber trailer mat made for horse trailers...stops feild points and broadheads...

Go to your local Tractor Supply Store and purchase a cow mat - they are I believe 4'x6' and are 1" thick rubber - they cost around 36 bucks . They have stopped an arrow out of a 70lb compound without damaging the arrow . Just hang it behind your target and your good to go !  :archer2:

i second the cow mat.  I purchased two 4'x6' mats and hung them against my fence side by side...so my backstop is 6' tall by 8' wide.  Best backstop i've ever had.  Wish i would have put one up years ago.

Everything I've read about a "horse mat" or "cow mat" as a back stop is good. You may need to build a solid wood frame for them, but it would be worth it in the long run.

A buddy of mine stacks cardboard and wraps it in tie downs and uses it as a target so I'm sure it would work as a backstop as well. Whenever the arrows start to penetrate further than he likes he just tightens the straps. It works the same as a block target by stopping the arrow with friction just a redneck version...

I go to Rock Quarries and beg for discarded rubber conveyer belt material.   It is usually about 4 feet wide and length is whatever I want it to be.

I have built a target house which resembles a Johnny house----and I hang the belting  in the back.  In front of it I place 3 bales of heavy hay (not straw) that has been compressed with a metal band.  Stops any kind of arrow from any kind of bow----

Thos cow mats sound like something good and similar----but my conveyor belting is much cheaper LOL.
