Back to work after a long and deerless vacation--Just started seeing rut sign two weeks ago here in this part of upstate NY-- I was driving past some protected land (a wildlife safety zone) and saw a big 12-pointer mounting a doe, then another equally large buck ran up and pushed him off of her. All three then ran into a pine plantation above the field they were in. Very cool to see that action, but a little too late for me!

She just can't be a one buck loving doe can she?  :biglaugh:

huntryx, I'm still not seeing much rutting activity just north of your area. Seems strange to me....but it's not over yet!
In the beginner's mind there are many possibilities. In the expert's there are few...So the most difficult thing is always to keep your beginner's mind...This is also the real secret of the arts: always be a beginner.  Shunryu Suzuki

Best activity i have seen is a spike chasing a doe who wasn't interested last Saturday.

PS  Evening of 11/24 home from work around 4:30 and another large 8 ran across the road in front of me-- 100 yeards below my driveway! Hadn't seen him all early season. They're driving me nuts but I keep at it.
