I set up a pop up blind about 10 yards from my tree stand because i have had nothing but turkeys come by all season.  tried em w/o the pop up with a natural gb ang ghille but they busted me on the draw.
So fw to yesterday, beautiful young buck shows up from where no deer has before and i literally thought he was going to stick his head in the blind before he finally turned and stopped broadside at 5 yds.  I was locked in on my spot and let the arrow go, then like a bad movie in slow motion the belly drops to the ground amd he spun on his feet as i watched my yellow feathers clear his back by 6" at least!  I figure he was keying in on the black void in the brush when i shot.  Never would have guessed one could duck that low that quick.  all i could do was shake my head at my mistake and laugh at what the deer must have thought.  I wish him well over the next 16 days.

Sorry to hear about the miss but glad you had the opportunity to shoot.  At least it wasn't wounded and lost.  Stay after them and take some pics if you get one.

I'd rather have a clean miss than a bad hit any day of the week.  Good luck the rest of the season.  At least your seeing deer.

With deer and ground blinds they can actually be too close. A sudden noise that close to them will produce extreme reaction.

I missed a doe last week from about 15ft from my stand,Had the bow almost horizontal due to the branches and her entering from the rear.I over compensated with a nice shot about an inch over her back.Sometimes it's them and sometimes its us.Keep at it you will get your quarry.

Amazing critters aren't they?!.... Phil

I violated my "rule no. 1" which is never shoot at an ALERT deer...
I would bet he was looking right at the blind when I shot...

i've seen their bellies scrap the ground when they jumped the string.  had small buck to do it twice this year.  yep, he came back in and gave me another shot.

WOW, how a deer can jump a string from only 5 yds away is beyond me. Are you positive it was a miss?

Fine experience which serves to remind us that the whitetail is a remarkable survivor.

I had two string dip drastically this year. One miss (yes, my third miss this year) was all me.

two dippers and one high shot that was just bad judgement.

Still looking for the first one in a long time.

Hang in there.
