The felt on the shelf of my L/B wore out,does any one know of a quick fix? We dont have an archery shop close by. I know I can get the material I need onine , but I would rather not have to wait a week. Is there anbything at the local hardware that I can use?

Some guys use the soft side of velcro.I use a piece of leather I got from an old belt,I just cut it out and slice it till it's as thick as a wooden match.Then glue it on ,it last a long time.I do it for the rest and strike plate.
 Dicks sells the thin felt for silencing shelfs also.

Velcro works great and it's cheap too.  I get mine at Wally World or Home Depot/Lowes.

I have seen leather used on the strike plate but not the rest. This isnt rough on your fletching?

I have some velcro lying around, I may have to try it. Thanks

I leave a slight gap(1/8) between the edge of the leather and the wood this way the fletching doesnt get screwed.And the fletching should have minimal touching if the arrow is tuned good.My bow is a Hill Tembo @ 70#@30-31" and I use wood.Any other rest and plate material that I tried makes the arrow shoot like crap.

Not really, the rest on my Howard Hill Longbow is leather as are the rests on several Fox LBs, & I've put a lot of arrows over those rests without more than the usual wear & fraying of the feather.
If it bothers you though, use the fuzzy part of Velcro. You can get it with it's own adhesive too.

The soft side of velcro on the shelf and side strike plate works for me.

My bows have a simple piece of leather Duco'ed on in one piece. Its thinner than belt leather to keep the arrow more towards center. I have never replaced one, they really dont wear out. One piece makes a rest and plate in one.

One more thing, leather has ZERO noise from any shaft material you choose. Dead silent in all conditions.

velcro works great for me and cheap too

wally world or a local cloth story sells velcro by the yard.  a one yard strip will last for years.  i like the 2" wide strips.

Thanks for the advice.I ended up using leather for the rest and velcro( because it is thinner)for the strike plate. I shot about thirty times everything seems good, very quiet.

I use alligator leather.

I use tanned Beaver hide and trim the hair down fairly short, just leaving it long enough for a cushion. Then glue it on with Tite bond.
It's silent and very easy on feathers. If I didn't have access to that, I would go with the adhesive strip soft side velcro.

You can also buy replacement felt in the craft section of Walmart, then add your own adhesive tape to the back. It sells for a .40 cents a square.
