40lb Recurve for 11 year Old

If it is a first bow, I would get one of the youth bows from 3-Rivers and have him pull 25-30 at his draw length with a bow that is made for his draw length. The grip is going to be too large for his hand, also.  If he stays with archery, after six months to a year, I would give him the 40#er as his second bow.  Bill

I will only say it depends on the kid.  My son (7 yrs old) is shooting 30# and is ready to move up already.  When he is 11, I hope to have him in a 45#, or close, longbow.

I agree with others. It depends on the size of the child.

Well the guy says his son is 5'9 and 210 lbs at 11.  The kid is shooting 60 lbs at 28 inches.  My son is 17 and an avid weighlifter.   He could easily shoot 70-80 lbs on his compound.  But he struggles with my 51 at 28 ghost.  He draws it about 26 inches.

And he is talking shooting 40 lbs at 28 inches.
