Thanks Tom for posting the pic of my first Trad deer! I have been out hunting and adding trad deer #2 and #3. Here are pics of the buck I shot Friday afternoon and the doe I took this morning. I'll post details in my next post.

Hi Don. Thanks! Full freezers are good with two growing boys.  I am shooting my Great Plains Rio Bravo "B" model one piece recurve. 54# at my draw.

Here he is ready to skin.

Thank you all for the congrats!

Two weeks ago I went to western Kansas trying to get my first trad deer. I have been skunked for the last couple of years but it hasn't been for a lack of trying. I only hunt from the ground so that hasn't helped matters.

On the first deer I took with no blind while I was nestled against some cedar trees 10 yards off the intersection of two trails. Of course the deer came in down wind on the other trail and I wasn't expecting that. At 10 yards the deer paused and looked right through me while wearing my leafy suit. I let it go a few more yards and shot it quartering away. 60 Yards and I watched it drop.

The buck was taken this Friday and shot at 18 yards from my ground blind. I shot a little back farther than I would have liked so I backed out and waited for morning to come. It was a long night but I didn't want to push him and the temp was to get down to 29 degrees. The meat would be fine. As it turned out I didn't need to wait but better safe than sorry. The Zwickey Delta 4 blade had done it's job and the deer had died on the run.

With the buck in the freezer I was ready to fill my last doe tag. At about 8:30 AM a doe walked by the ground blind and looked right in at 10 feet. Needless to say I was a little startled as I wasn't expecting to see her that close! As soon as she put some distance between us and turned broadside I drew and released. The arrow zipped through her so fast I almost missed it. She went 25 yards and dropped. The Zwickey delta did it's magic again.

A beautiful trio of deer with a trad bow all taken from the ground. Add the wonderful sights, smells and sounds of being in the fall woods and it just doesn't get much better .

Believe Shawn is getting his game together-and in the freezer. Good going, Buddy!! Good talking to you tonight, you always lift my spirits, bless you and yours.
The essence of the hunt for me is to enter nature and observe+ return safely occasionally with the gift of a life taken.

The season gave him perfect mornings, hunter's moons and fields of freedom found only by walking them with a predator's stride.
