Started 3 years ago...was hunting with my youngest, Cole, then 8. We sat a stand at my father's farm. Heard a buck working a rub and grunting...we called, he came in and I missed! Errrr! Knew he was big and had kickers and stickers. Last season, same buck came in to check out a decoy we had out. Unfortunately, he came in as we were taking the deke down for the evening! My son, again with me, and I just stared at the big buck as he stood mesmerized about 40 yards out! Well, this morning, I got it done. The big buck was 5 minutes behind a parade of young bucks chasing a doe. I turned over a Primos can and he swapped ends and headed straight to me. He was coming in downwind and I never thought he would make it all the way...saved my bacon 'cause I never got real excited! At 20 yards, he got a noseful...he slowly backed up two steps and turned to leave just as the arrow caught him center way quartering into the off lung. Truthfully, in the low light, I thought I missed. Only when I went to find the arrow did I find a swath of blood a blind man could follow! At the end was Big Charlie...a name my Mom gave the buck when she continually saw him feeding on acorns in her front yard under a giant oak. Although Cole wasn't in the stand with me this time, he was up at my folks house and was more than helpfull dragging the big dude out!! I got him with my tried and true Schafer Silvertip, Beman arrows and Snuffer broadheads!
