Ok, need some suggestions on a way to keep fletching dry. I plan to hunt tomorrow, (been planned for a while) and there is an 80% chance of rain. I do not have fletch covers and will not be able to get to a store to buy any feather protectants (probably not a word). Any "homemade" idea's about applications I could use on the feathers, or should I just try a zip lock bag to cover them. Thanks

Try some cheap hair spray or something like Scotchgard.

Thanks, I'll give Scotchgard a try.

100% food grade silicone is what I use no smell and the feathers don't get stiff or clumpy.

I am not trying to be a smart butt.... but, I keep a set of arrows fletched with natural, die cut, Can. Goose feathers just for really wet stuff.  They are water proof!

I use a plastic bag,the kind we find with the bowstring,I pass the closed side trough the arrow and close the zip on the back of the nock.Sometime I use a small rubber band to seal the hole, sometime I add a shopping plastic bag on all the other arrow but the first stays out ready for action. When you need just slip the back from the nock side.Dry as a bone.

Your best bet is to have your arrows tuned to the bow perfectly, that way if their wet it doesn't matter. Spraying them only delays the inevitable in the rain.

Baby bottle liners work well. They are just palstic bags but are the right size to fit over fletching.

I use silicone spray and carry a plastic bag for the downpours, at which time I usually find a dry place to be.

I just use ziplock bags as mentioned. I cut one on the sides similar to whats mentioned above. This bag goes on the arrow thats on the string. Very easy to take off.

I have always wanted to try condoms, but I can't get my wife to touch them at the store let alone buy any? Until that day I use the powder Fletch-Dry.

       Sorry Curt...just had to. No hard feeling when you nix this one.

I tune my hunting set up with wet feathers. I figure I was born wet I can hunt wet and my set up needs to be tuned for such occasions.

Where do you get that?

goldflinger

Thanks for the info guys. Made it halfway to the stand and it literally poured. I had ziplocks and scotchgard, but it wouldn't have mattered. Turned around and headed back to the truck. Will give it a try tomorrow. They just started drilling one of those Cana-Woodford shale wells across the road from the property I hunt. It is amazing how the well site lights up  the area. Wondering how it will affect deer movement. Guess I will find out in about 10 hours and hopefully I make it to the stand this time. :-)
