I started Trad less than a year ago.  My wife picked it up watching me shoot in the yard.  She has a 1970's K-mag she really likes.  We went hunting together this past Sunday and Monday and those were her second and third hunts of her life.

We got out in a ground blind on Sunday.  We had a small 8pt come in broadside at 15-20 yards. This would be her first shot at game of any kind (mind you I haven't had a trad deer shot yet either). On her draw the arrow fell off the shelf. She pinched the arrow a bit.  Oh well, it happens.

Monday she found a spot to sit for a while near a crossing. She unknowingly snuck in within 15 yards of a bedded doe! After a while it spooked and since she didn't know it was there she could not get a shot off.

She really enjoyed both days, but regrets that missed opportunity on the 8pt.  

She's a convert, and wants to get out again as soon as possible.  Now the issue is finding sitters for our kids so we can get out together more.

We had a great time in the field together, and we have found something new to share.

Thats great.  Some of my most frustrating yet down right rewarding moments are when the full time pros (deer) bust me and therefore school me on how to hunt them.  Nothing gets the heart going like a blowing deer 10 - 15 yards away that you walked up on not knowing it was there.  Good luck to both of you and tell your wife that we have all been there (and we wouldn't change a thing).  As you already know, its all about the journey.

That is fantastic! Good on you for letting her have the first opportunity. Truely a gentleman! Where in Ohio are you at?

Tell your wife not to feel bad, it happens even to the best of hunters, I had a dead to rights shot at 8yds. and missed, I went back to the same spot and hunted it again as soon as I could, had a big doe and spike come within 6yds. of me. they were checking me out and making all kinds of noise to try and get me to move. Since I knew I didn't want to shoot either one, I just stood there watching them and refused to move. After awhile they just calmly walked away, ain't it great hunting from the ground.

that is great, I wished i could get my Wife involved. NO such Luck after 3+ years. she will barely some out while I am shooting with the kids. SHe has no interests in this type stuff.

Enjoy the time in the field with her and Cherish those special moments.

Brent hit this right on the head.  I just wish my wife would follow your wife so we could share the journey together.

Tomorrow I head out to try and fill yet another void in my journey.

I would say that's bitter sweet. When I go hunting its like an escape. But if ur cool with it great congrats an best of luck to both of ya.

Nothing to regret, just keeps you and her coming back.  Enjoying the hunt itself is the best part!

Thats great!  My husband and I enjoy hunting together.  I completely understanding the baby sitting, our kids are 7 and 9, it is hard to find someone to keep them so we can go together.  However both our son and daughter love to shoot their bows when we are practicing so it is great for our family!
