I'm real fond of Tapered Sitka Spruce.>>>>~~~~~>    :archer2:

Most of my woodies are POC...love the aroma, even when they break. I've used Sitka apruce, and like 'em, Doug fir, maple, and ash. I guess I've never met a wood arrow I didn't like.

Anyone ever use larch shafts?

they all have their strong points and short comings.i like poc and have been using sitka spuce latly.i got some hildebrant sitka spruce tapered shafts and absolutely love them.they fly like darts.they don't have that wonderful smell that poc has.just got some yellow poplar barreled shafts from Don stokes today in the mail.i haven't fletched them up yet,but they look to be of high quality and cannot wait to try them.that is part of the fun to me,tring different materials.have fun with it,steve  :)

IMO, Douglas Fir is the best shooting of the arrow woods.  It's also quite tough and carries good weight for a hunting arrow.  Fir shafting varies quite a bit in mass weight so you can get heavy hunting arrows and lightweight target arrows.  Good stuff!
