I heard a non resident can wait up to 3 years to draw a tag.How is it that all the TV "experts" and "pro staffers" draw a tag every year? You hear them say they will be back next year. How do they know that if they have to apply? Please explain this to me,thanks,George

Governor's tags to promote the state economy.

Big money gets special favors.

Stinks for the rest of us regular guys.

I hear that there is something called "Governor's tags" which are handed out to such people because it must be viewed as positive advertising for the state. Most residents that I know feel resentment about it and wish that would stop.

There are 2-3 conservation tags on the auction site every year. The state gives them to "worthy" groups to raise money for their respective causes.

They generally go around $10k each.

Some of the TV experts are now Iowa residents, so drawing a tag is as easy as walking into Wal-Mart. I know Lakoskis live in Iowa and I think maybe the Kiskys do too now. They can purchase resident tags for $27.50, plus landowner tags at $2 each!

As for the others, I suppose the sponsors ante up for the auction tags.

Don't be too downhearted. There are some areas of the state with quite a few trophy bucks, but most of the state just has lots of big bodied deer (bucks and does) thanks to the generous donations of corn from our local farmers, most of whom would just as soon see ALL of the deer hanging on the wall. Lately, Iowa has gotten lots of press and even more hype, some deserved, much not.

It's kind of irritating to those of us who have been born and raised here to see the cost of tags continually rise and the posted signs increase in number thanks to the "experts" and their TV shows.

I wish they'd put those Gov tags in the pot for the rest of you boys, but it'll never happen.  Like Iowa needs more exposure.

Outta state is how much now for Iowa? If it is more than $400 I would rather get a side of prime beef cut up.
