Ok, this past week at work was crazy busy, and I did get up early this morning to be in the stand pre-dawn but still, this afternoon was the first time I've caught myself nodding off. I went back out to a ground blind to hunt from 3:00 to 6:00 today and I guess that blind was a little too cozy, because after a couple hours of sitting, I performed that big nod.  You know, the one where just before your head hits you chest you jerk upright.

Ever happen to you?

One of the best naps I've ever had was in the woods! I woke up 10 feet from my set up. Lol! Didn't see a thing that afternoon but boy was I rested.

3 years ago did that in a ladder stand, woke up right when my butt cleared the seat of the stand.  Good thing I was wearing a harness.  Still only hunt on the ground, as long as it's legal.

Many time in the blind, just so tired I layed corner to corner.  Out stalking, found a nice spot... NAP time.

If I can get warm, then I am taking a nap.  I'm not seeing many deer yet...maybe I should stay awake.

Just "Combat Naps". I'm thinking of trying Jeff from New Zealand's technique. Spot-Stalk-Sit-Nap.

That's one of the reasons I wont hunt from a tree stand. Don't care to wake up hanging from a harness.

I've fallen asleep many times. My Summit climber is the most comfortable stand I've ever had and sleeps great. I'm strapped in and would have to work at it to fall out.
I'm an oilfield hand and work long days and nights so when I get a day to hunt it usually is after a long stint at work. If I'm warm I'll nap from time to time. Hard to say how many deer have passed by me over the years.

Never in a tree. I just put a 10 penny nail in the middle of the seat--not about to fall!!! Did I say I have a problem with height??
Really I have too much fun watching critters--squirrels falling from trees, mink chasing each other, racoons, turkey etc.!!
My huntin' pard' is at his best asleep in the woods--says he's scouting for elk??!!
Other things being equal, it is the man who
shoots with his heart in his bow that hits the mark.

Yes, this year during elk season I nodded off (on the ground in the sun) when I opened my eyes an elk was standing 10 yards in front of me, board side no less and nothing I could do about it.....  That sucked.

Yep, I nodded-off in a natural blind on a dam down in the Simpson Desert, and awoke to the snorting of a huge brumby stallion and his family. It was a great encounter, but no shots were quite presented.

I have taken lots of naps in trees, I also have one of the older summit revolutions, most comfortable chair I own. I also hooked my arms through the ladder sticks of a stand in Canada on an all day hunt this year and caught a few zzzzzs

Checked my eyelids for holes this afternoon; an unusually warm, sunny day. It felt pretty good.

dirtguy, about 7 years ago I nodded off before sundown in a tree. I climbed this knarly old tree with lots of places to support arms and legs. No harness, it was scouting time. Foolish me, I should have tied myself in or had a harness. When I awoke there was a fawn looking up at me. Her mother, grazing a few feet away, couldn't care less! Eventually, the fawn lost interest and moved on. It was a funny sensation waking up with small eyes on me.

I used to fall asleep in the treestand a lot more than I do now. I little  more afraid of falling out, and try not make myself so comfortable. I have also decided to try the stay-awake caffeine tablets when I am really tired to help stay awake: so far so good
