Hey guy,
Im heading to texas in early jan to hunt with Curtis. Never ventured to texas before or chased javies or hogs and wanted to hear from tradgangers that has been what gear they took or from others who are going what gear are you taking. Trying to get a jump on things and get gear rounded up now.
Thanks
Boswell

Sent you a PM, I think the best thing I can offer is to practice at hitting very precise spots at close range.  those Javies will let you get close but their kill zone is small.

The Vanilla Gorilla

I'm heading down with Dan about the same time.

Ditto on the hitting small targets up close.  Bring ya some rugged britches and boots cause most everything has thorns on it.

Daytime hunts I was wearing t shirts but when the sun dipped I was putting on a hoodie.   Pack ya some chapstick cause its windy and dry, no matter the temps.  I was glad I brought a camelbak.

Pack you a metric ton worth of small game heads!  Lots of jackrabbits and quail to sling arrows at in the downtime.

You'll have a blast down there.  I'm looking foreward to heading down again.

We went down with CK last Jan. an are going again at the end of Jan. Take a good tent we had high winds one day an that sand come up under the fly an covered everything. don't forget to take a bag of corn,CK will have some to buy if not but you really don't use that much an take a camp chair for lounging around an a chair for a blind, something you can be comfortable in for a few hours.....

I hunted with Curtis the 1st of January last year and it was snowing and like 20 degrees.

I slept in my rental jeep. It made for a good shelter. Dress warm and I brought several hand and body warmers for my sleeping bag.

Good luck.

Wind repellent. LOL

I was there right about the time the others where last January. The wind blew 60 plus MPH. Our tent got shredded.

It rained all night one night which according to everyone never happens there. All of our stuff got wet. Mostly because our rain fly blew away.

So make sure You bring the best shelter You can. Even with the bad luck we had a blast. Saw some Hogs that were HUGE !!!

Curtis does a great job. You'll have a good time. I will be back soon.

Good luck with Your hunt.

I hunted last April with Curtis out of Crane Tx. wind blew alot  :(   I hunt the southwest every year, be prepared for about any type of weather in Januray, but don't forget chap stick, sun screen, and sun glasses, theres a good store in Crane so if you forget something you can pick it up their, also there's a small feed/auto store to buy corn if you need to. You'll have a great time, Curts is really a cool dude
