i had an excelent hunt this morning which ended in my first antlered trad buck.
my cousin and i hunted at my parents house in winterville. we got in the stands about 6:45, it was completely dark when the first deer made its way into the creek bottom. i assume that it was a buck because it sounded heavy and it checked the three scrapes in the area. well it got light and the deer moved on so i decided to do a bit of rattling at about 7:30. i got no responce, at 8:15 i rattled again. this time i was much more aggresive with it. about 5 minutes later, i heard something splashing in the creek. i saw a set of legs and then a set of antlers, not small antlers either. well he walked up to the fence which is also the property line, and then turned as if it were going to walk away, but then turned again and hopped the fence onto my parents property. it was about 18 yards at this point, but angled to me a bit too much. well he turned to check one of the scrapes, and i drew and released. he spun at the shot, but it was too late. it ran to the top of the ridge, and then out of sight. we got down about 10 minutes later and found blood, which wasn't hard to follow. once we got to the top of the ridge it petered out, so we left and got some breakfast. we went back at 10 and found the bloodtrail again, and it was easy going from that point on. he made it about 100 yards from where i shot. i got one lung and the liver. here are a few pics.
