I have heard in a couple different places that Magnus is getting ready to phase out heavy snuffers and possibly all snuffers. Has anybody heard this and what does everybody know about it.  I find it hard to believe there is any truth to it.  Snuffers are very popular and cant see how Magnus could afford to give it up.

No, the welder they used went out of business.  I'm not sure where they are in the process, but they will be getting a new weld shop or being able to do it in house

I have never shot Snuffers. Been using Woodsmans for the past several years, good head, have never needed to try the Snuffers.

It's not the size of the game you take that means Success!
It's the experience of pursuing game that give true Outdoor Success!!!!!

Fortunately there are some really good alternatives if the snuffers do crap out.

I agree there is some other good heads and woodsman elites are one of them and I am using them this year. I like Magnus a first class company so Im shure they will come u with another way to get them welded.   Widow

There is a bigger market for the garbage heads they shoot off compounds, so i would not like to loose any good heads if at all possible.

The last 2 packs I got about 3 months ago were reduced in price.

I would hope that they do keep the Snuffer line by obtaining a new source to perform the welds, outside of the Woodsmans I have on my carbons Snuffers have always resided on many of my hunting arrows since the 80's.

Snuffers are not welded. They are copper brazed. (not being picky, just supplying the facts) The brazing process takes place during heat treating so I'm sure Magnus won't go without a heat treater.
For what that's worth.

+1
Arc welding is too hot, the temper of the steel is put at risk. Brazing can be performed with a kiln where cooling times can be controlled.

I hope not.  Still have some of the old 160's that I have been shooting for years....  Tough head and hope it stays around.

I saw on another forum where the owner of magnus posted that their line of "traditional maseries and traditional original snuffer broadheads" are up for sale.  The company will continue to produce the heads but will sell the lines to another manufacturer.  The owner went on to say the company would be focusing on the stinger, buzzcut, bullhead, and snuffer ss models.

By the way, that announcement was made on 11/28/10.

When I smoked cigarettes, it seemed like every brand I got hooked on was discontinued. Now it's happening to my favorite broadheads! Hopefully I have enough to last.

I saw the same thread as str8jct. Mike Sohm caught quite a bit of flack over it.

So what is a guy going to do for a moderately priced 160 grain three blade head if he makes the woodsman too????  I personally dont want to spend 8-10 bucks a piece for broadheads.  Not upset just looking for and alternative at this point
