Anybody ever try blind calling when things are slow???If so any responces??I have been calling
like that for a while and sometimes it works better than when I see deer.

If I'm falling asleep I'll mess around, but I'd rather keep myself totally quiet and hope my pre season scouting pays off.  But certain areas are better than others when calling, thats for sure.

I do it all the time and have had good success with it. The only down side to calling deer is they seem to be very alert when they come in so it's easier to get busted.

Most of the deer I have called in were from blind calling.
A significant number of deer will respond to your calling that you never see. Blind calling can be quite effective. Treat each time you call as if you will actually have a positive response. Also, keep on guard and listen intently while calling and during sequence pauses. Sometimes a deer may already be on top of you that you were unaware of or possibly be moving in not easily detected. Many hunters get busted and never even know it.

I called in an eight pointer a couple of days ago. I didn't see him before I called. He is now in the freezer!!      

I killed the buck in my avatar 2 years ago by bind calling. I had 2 button bucks bedded right under me all afternoon, about 30 mins before dark I decided to turn my "Can" call over a few times.

Within 1 minute I heard him coming from behind me. He walked right to the base of my tree. I had to let him walk out about 4 yards before I was able to get a clear shot.

Ive tried it off and on and though I have had much more success with calling here in Iowa versus calling in Michigan where I grew up I would say Ive had at best mixed results.  These days I prefer to remain silent and use my calls after seeing deer and determining that they are currently not headed towards me.  I figure if they are heading towards me nothing I can do will improve on that situation, in fact I would more likely mess that up by giving up my position.  I guess I enjoy seeing my hard work setting up my ambush sights bear fruit.

I do.  I don't see enough deer to wait until I see one.  I have had several deer come to the calls.

I have had some success using a grunt tube and grunting fairly softly.  My first two archery kills were with the help of calling, I think.  I usually grunt two or three times and that is it.  Maybe 5 or so seconds between grunts, but no more.  I have had several does as well as some small bucks come in.  They seem to be on full alert, as a few others have stated.  I have tried to call in a few that I spotted or that were walking away and have never been able to turn them around.  They seemed to pay no attention.  So, when things are real slow I will give the grunt tube a try, I just don't over do it.

I do,, but sparsly, and it depends on the situation. For example, this past weekend, my son and I were in an area fairly close to a known bucks core area. Every half hour or longer I gave a single bleat or a few grunts. We also did one sequence of a fight including brushing leaves. We basically just wanted to let him know there was something there, but it is up to him to investigate. We brought in a buck who were curious, but not the dominant buck.

Yes i do. usually a doe call first and maybe followed by some grunts. but like someone said if they hear you now your the "hunted"!I have young deer respond the most. I also call if i spook deer that haven't winded me.

Speaking of bleats, I used to use the bleat can a few years ago.  Only one time did I get a response.  After bleating probably way too many times, a small button buck came strutting out of a thicket acting like he was the dominant male in the area.  He came strutting right up to the tree I had my stand in, looking for some action.  Well, he found none and went stomping and searching around, gave up and headed back into the thicket.  It was pretty funny watching this brave little guy.  That is the only time I had any luck, and no longer use them.

Three "blind" rattling setups resulted in bringing in five different bucks Sat. morning.  No shots, but yes it works, and very well.
I've gotten zero responses with a grunt call so far.  Location, location, location.  Oh yea, the right wind helps too.

I have very little confidence in calling of any kind for deer.  I stopped carrying a grunt tube with me 3-4 years ago.

When I did carry a tube I called at a few small bucks that weren't headed my way, probablly 10 different times. Once, a small buck changed course and came in for a shot.

I'm a fanatic about being quiet. I always worry that the call will reach a call-shy animal and I'll never even know it.
