Last night I was leaving to go to work. Driving through the back of my neighborhood I see a nice buck crusin' after a doe with his nose straight out in front of him like he was being towed by the doe. The further down the street I see two more bucks (one was a dandy) coming into my neighborhood from a near by piece of woods. The big boys only come to my yard when some thing is going on, and it sure looked like they were getting ready last night.
I will give thanks to the LORD because of his righteousness and will sing praise to the name of the LORD Most High.

We are noticing some frustration around here as well.

PEARL DRUMS

I seen a 1 point chasing every deer it seen in a field I was watching over. That was about a week ago?

trapperzeke

The local traffic report has had 3 deer strikes this past week.  Small scrapes are being opened up to much larger ones too.

If you believe in his theory, Aslsheimer, of Deer and Deer-hunting has his theory based on full moon triggering the rut. His prediction for this year is an early rut, with prime chase period starting yesterday, and breeding starting on the 29th.  If so should be a good couple weeks leading up to November.
The season gave him perfect mornings, hunter's moons and fields of freedom found only by walking them with a predator's stride.

maineac - I sure hope Aslsheimer is right.  Maybe I picked a good week to take vacation time next week

I've seen a few rubs but that is about it. I'd say a couple more weeks for my part of the country and they ought to be going purdy good. Good Hunting! Jason

Thought I would dig this one up and push it to the top with an update. Kind of making it a report.
PA / NJ area. Things have been hot all ready. I have seen at least 15 bucks hot on a doe and a lot of running around in the last 4 days. We had that big 'ol moon, and I had to slam the brakes a few times on the way to work last night. Been a while since I remember early activity like this. Chime in from your location to help compare notes. Good hunting to all.

I have not seen much here in TN yet.
A guy i work with said he saw a yung buck chaseing a doe on his way to work today.

Nothing much going on in Western Va. 1 small scrape and a few rubs but hope next week things start to cook.
The essence of the hunt for me is to enter nature and observe+ return safely occasionally with the gift of a life taken.

J-dog

Had  anew buck show his face on the camera a nicer 8pt. I would imgine he was roaming and checking though I have not seen any good rutting sign. I have never seen this guy before so I can only figure he is checking about getting ready.
