hit a doe close to the shoulder, but she turned so only 6" or so penit., thinking op shoulder or leg hit.  He hit some close cober and held up.  I heard walking and the thrashing about a half hour later.  I thought see was done then thrashing a little later again.  Could be a one lung or light double.  45 deg tonight. Wait another hour and look or go in the AM?  I don't think the blood trail will be good without an exit, and don't want to pusher out.  I think she would be ok over night, but would like some input.

If you don't have coyotes around, wait until morning.

COOCH

Wait until the morning. If it's a decent hit it won't be far away.Sign also shows up better in the daylight.

Any blood at the spot of the hit, or is the arrow there

Can not be absolutley sure that waiting is the best answer. However, it is the best decision to make considering what you know and/or don't know.

Alot of variables depend on leaving her overnight. First is the temp, which 45deg. is fine to hang deer in, so she should still be good tomorrow morning. The other thing is, how bad are the coyotes around there? If they are thick like they are here, you may not have any meat left by the time you get there tomorrow morning.

I'd wait 4 hrs from the time of the hit and go tracking, very quietly, very cautiously, and with as little light as possible. The moon is half full tonight so that will help.
Good Luck and let us know how it turns out.

I am waiting on morning to look for my deer I shot at last light as well. Be patient, it is a cold night. The meat should be ok.

When I doubt...back out

Good luck

Sounds like an ubiquitous WAIT!

For the record, that's what I would do too.

I would wait makes for a long night but I really think its your best option. Spotty blood is hard to follow at best even with the best lights at night. Let us know how it turns out. I hope you find her!

David Yukon

Wait!! The morning is a better choice for the situation!
Good luck and keep us posted!

straitera

If me, I'd get a track dog & get after her tonight.

Wait....wait.....wait.  Good luck to you.  I wish I had followed my own advice this year.

I was not sure, but was thinking hard on waiting.  I am away from home and wanted to make it home for something the kids are doing today, but those are the risks of a night hunt.  .  That and the thrashing I heard made it tempting to go in after her last night.  I had one out over night in the mid to low 50's once with no problem.  Coyotes are around but not bad in the area.  Thank for reinforcing what I knew I should do.  Sometimes you just need to here it from another source.  Wow this is a lot of work on a phone.  :)   getting around and ready to pack up and get organized to hick in the long way to set until it gets good and light then stalk in to see what I find.  I had just set this stand and a trail cam right on the area the deer came in so it will be interesting to see the pic's.
