Knock,knock,anyone home?Can I come in?Hello all,I am quite new to bow's and archery,matter of fact,just plain dumb about it.I have been reading posts for a while now,trying to pick up on some things.Have always like traditional bows.I have bows with wheels,but they lack the character of a wooden bow.Personally I would rather make one,than buy one,which is what brought me to this forum,along with visiting Twin Oaks here in Clarksville Tn last spring.Furthermore,I would like to apologize to everyone if this is posted in the wrong place,as I cannot find the "How To" section either.

Hi there-Hap

Thank you,I appreciate the welcome.So far I have made 2 bows,both from red oak board.Both broke,the second was to be a gift to my son when he came home on leave.It was finished,or so I thought.I even shot it.Finished out at 45 lbs at 28".Yesterday while working on a hickory board,I needed the string(from the oak),so I thought I would check the weight again.Crack at 26,broke in have at 28.The hickory,I guess will now become the gift.Everything looks good now,50 @ 28",just need to sand and finish.One of the things that I am troubled with is the tillering string,I am using 550 cord,never realized it had such a strech(sp?) ratio.i'm not sure if that throws off everthing or not.I am making short 60" bow's according to Sam Harper's guidelines.
