Ive got a Shrew classic hunter carbon 58" that I cant get as quite as I think it should be. Ive tried rubber leggs, wool yarn balls and limb saver, still getting what sounds like a "twang"
Also moved the brace up and down.
Any help would be appreciated.

What string is on the bow?  I've found the strings that Ron supplies 450+ with built up loops to be very quiet.  Dyna 97   :eek:  noisy!

I would have to agree with Tim. Stay with the 450+. What brace height are you at. I am having good luck with 7 1/4-7 3/8.

Heavier arrows.

First off if your bow is 58" you have a Super Shrew not a Classic Hunter.  Second with carbon bows your always going to have a little "twang" to it.  Every carbon core bow I have ever shot or heard has a carbon sound to it.  Maybe it's just me?  Third like has been said above stay with the 450+ strings from Ron.  They are your best bet for performance as well as getting your bow quiet.

Your brace should be around 7-1/4" to 7-1/2" from the deep part of the grip.  Your arrow weight should be around 10 GPP.

What Tim said plus I do think the cat wiskers were more quiet than the wool .

Well here is the deal, you send the bow to me. I'll put new string silencers on it and hunt with it this year. You'll never hear a thing. LOL

I also have a carbon 58" Shrew.  No matter what I do, the slight twang.  Just the nature of carbon, I think.

Go skinny string padded loops. SBD strings are great. String Leeches in the string like the compound dudes use. Carbon makes for a loud bow also. Not worth the extra bucks for the few FPS faster. Just my honest opinion.       bentpole

If ya want it to quite, I will take it!! (LOL!) To make it quiet play with the silencers a bit, I found on my Shrews they liked 1/3 way from each limb tip. I also like rubber whiskers on them for some reason too. Shawn

While I don't own a Shrew (yet) I do have a 56" HeadHunter longbow with carbon in the limbs which is of the Shrew design. It too had a slight "twang" that was driving me crazy. What worked for me was raising the brace height a bit, putting on an SBD skinny string and adding small wool silencers at the 1/4 and 1/3 mark on the string. Now its just a whisper!!

Well I checked and it does say on  the limb Shrew Classic Hunter Carbon.... that being said the quitest string is the one furnished by Ron, I tried and SBD that is very quite on my  Roy Hall and ACS but very loud on the shrew. Maybe the carbon is the cause, I will continue with the cat whiskers, altho they seem to break off a lot, and work on the brace height. obtw its 48# and Im shooting 575 grain arrows. Does the bow bolt make it louder?

The bow bolt doesn't make mine louder.  My wood limb bow w/bowbolt is super quiet, the carbon limb bowbolt has a slight carbon twang but is still pretty quiet.

John, my new strings are a blend of 6 strands 450+ and 2 of B-50, they're  quieter than the all 450+. I like the cat whiskers the best.
