So I went Thursday to sit in a stand for an evening hunt.  I worked late Wednesday so I left a bit early from work Thursday around 3:30.  I grabbed my gear and heading out to my honey hole.  I pulled up hooked up my stuff and headed out.  I reached my tree around 4pm and spent the next 10 minutes climbing up until I was situated.  I had just enough time to nock an arrow when I looked to my left and saw a button buck about 15 yards facing toward me away eating acorns.  How he didn't see me I don't know but I'll take luck any day.  I didn't have a shot from my seated position so I was content letting him eat and walk closer.  He kept looking over his shoulder so I figured there was another deer with him.  Looking into the woods behind him I was straining looking for another deer.  As I leaned out a bit to get a better look at the area he was looking at I saw out of my peripheral vision a doe walk right under my tree.  I didn't have time to get nervous.  I watched her walk out to about 12 yards, she turned quartered away, I picked a spot, and let er fly.  It was blood trail was so easy I think a blind man could have followed it.

Here's the first blood after the shot.  It was her first step after the hit.

Here's the arrow after it passed through.

Here's how I found her 30 yards away.

Here's the insides after gutting her.

Here's the entry hole.

What would you attempt to do, if you knew you could not fail?

Never leave the one you love, for the one you like.

By the way... I'm hunting a inside city limits on a doe first management area and I'm glad to say that I've got my doe outta the way so I can kill a bruiser before many of the guys shooting training wheels  :D

12 yards and a 30 yard run, that's just about as good as it ever gets. Congratulations on a nice animal. Well done.

To me, the ultimate challenge in bowhunting is not how far away you can succesfully make a killing shot but rather how close you can get to the animal before shooting.

Pulling the drain plug might be an understatement.  None the less that is a great way to put words to the picture.  I like it.  Hopefully the bruiser will go down the same way.  I've killed more doe than I can count on one hand but I've yet to recover a buck shot with a bow.  Maybe it's my year?
