Ok, I love all the HH threads concerning the bows but, now I would like to know what arrows folks are shooting from theirs? Would like to know varied opinions on wood, aluminum and carbon. Thanks in advance.

When I shoot my HH bow, I shoot cedar.  I think it would be a great injustice to shoot anything else out of it.

I shoot footed hexshafts from whisperingwind arrows and at times 2016 aluminum.

i shoot cedars, fir and and spruce , often alloys 2016's .
I'd like to try carbons but I have to leave them too long and it makes them difficult t get out of a back quiver ...
I might try AD's and see if i can cut them shorter than 28.75 ...

I've got a new bow coming and it will be 68", 51# @ 29". If I wanted to shoot a 125gr head, what length and spine should I use?

Wood is the only option.I use cedars, any other material(carbon, aluminum) doesnt feel right and IMHO it would be disrespectful to the man.    :goldtooth:      :biglaugh:

Woods only here. Never had bending or warp problems from POC. Made some ash once & couldn't keep them straight. You can do a lot with woods.

Mr. Wannabe1,
We shoot Howard Hill Arrows from our Howard Hill bows.  Works for us.

Currently Doug Fir and Cedar. I use to shoot ash but the quality I was getting dropped off.

Overspined

wood of any sort or alum rarely..hate carbon.

Wannabe...at your specs I'd aim for [assuming you draw 29 " ] and shooting cedars , fir etc

60/65 # or even  65 -70# cutting the shaft at 30 1/2" using a 125gn head ....

My Big Five is 66" 48# @ 28 I draw 27.5
5/16 cedar is my first choice cut to 29.5 BOP 125 gr head they spine out at 52 pounds. Then 1916 alum. I'm not shooting carbon out of it any more.

Cool - I'll be different.  I shoot carbons because I find wood arrows to be too costly.

Another vote for wood. For me, either cedars or ash work well. I straighten my ash shafts with heat and an Ace roller and haven't had a problem keeping them straight.

Out of heavier Hills aluminum works fine, out of lighter Hills the metal arrows tend to be too stiff, then fiberglass or wood is the only way to go.

Out of the Halfbreed I bought from you, I shoot 60-65 spine with 145gr heads and full length. I'm pulling it to about 31", too.  With 125s, I'd drop to 55-60#.  I bet you could use 50-55#.  Get a test kit from 3 Rivers. Then you'll know for sure.

Once you figure out a spine, get some of the Surewood shafts.  They are good and heavy and my Halfbreed loves them.  They are leaps and bounds tougher than cedar.

I shoot 3555 gold tip trads out of my 50# cheetah. I had a number of them at the house already and they flew very well so I just kept shooting them.

TSP

95% wood (mostly cedar), 5% aluminum (mostly for limited 3-D shooting), and 0% carbon.  Make that -5% carbon.  Don't like to even think of them with my Hills.
