I started just a little bit of very light rattling last week.  So far - nothing.  I usually will mess with it a bit once I start seeing scrapes and rubs.

I tickled the horns together last night with does out in the bean field 125yrs out.   It got there attention, they changed their dirction and started heading my way.  They got with in 40yrds and locked up.  They were def. looking for the source.

If it worked on them, it could have worked on a buck as well.  Good luck to ya.

Tickling horns can work virtually any time during season. Tickly and/or very light rattling is a good choice for early season. An advantage of tickling horns is that you are less likely to get caught. More deer catch you than many hunters realize. Some guys stay with very light rattling all season.

I have rattled in three times as many deer in the a.m. as I have in the p.m. You do have more prime time available in the a.m.
