Everytime I use white on my cresting I have trouble getting it to cover well.  I have tried using the paints thicker and thinner.  I tried putting a coat of gray, like a primer.  I use acrylic cresting paints over polycrylic.  I have good results with other colors, just not white.  Any tips or hints?

I've used the white gasket lacquer with great success - thick and heavy back end is white I don't care for

I am not doing a cap dip, I am just trying to put on white cresting stripes.

Grey Taylor

I've had the best success with white by using some house paint primer first and then applying the white acrylic paint. Sometimes a couple coats are necessary.
I don't think I'd suggest using a grey primer. The white is still going to have to cover that.

I've had the same issue with some colors also. I use craft store acrylics. I have had success in aplying three or four thin coats of the paint allowing it to dry between coats. Dry time is short and the paint does not build up as thick as one would expect. I use profin as a finish (two or three coats) sanding any high spots between coats. Hope this is what you were asking about.

PEARL DRUMS

I use Testors model paint for my cresting and it works great, covers well, dries fast and will handle gasket laquer or Minwax poly with no issues, even white.

Your not alone. I have the same problem. I have to to do at least 2 coats useing testors. Even green and yellow I need two coats. Very frustrating!
