I have had 2 of them they are fine,  its the same system a few boywers still use i believe tomahawk being one of them, if they ever develop any issues black widow will make it right, the later ones in th epl's used a set screw that i was told by Roger at BW really wasnt necessary but a upgrade by the maker of the connection system, (treadway?) the only reason I still dont have one is because i bought a new Pl a few years ago and it has the locket socket

Dave. So that would be the type that has the metal u shaped bar that slides in and holds the 2 halves together? If so I guess that's a proven set up! thanks......

I have take down PLV now and have had a few others the all worked flawless. I also have a PLGA one piece and and cant tell the difference when shooting.

Dave Lay

Ron, yes it is,  you roll the handle up slide it in the other 1/2 and roll the handle back over it, ya cant even tell its a take down and when strung its very solid. if your looking at the one for sale, i wouldnt let that even slow me down

Sorry, but I think I own one of the reasons they switched systems.  I have had to send mine in three times, and it still isn't perfect.  I love that bow (PLV 64")and still hunt with it. (I have a post right now Another SW Montana Bull, you'll see a close up of it in the Hiking In pic.)  I own three widows and love the company and the bows.  However, that set up is either good or really not so good.  That probably varies bow to bow.  Mine slips after shooting it.  In good condition it may be a hundred shots, after a while, maybe a dozen.  I have to unstring it and reset it.  I shoot alot and over time it gets worse and worse until I send it in.  They feel bad enough they refinished all the mountain dings out of the bow for free.  So buyer beware.

Dave,
Yeah mine has the set screw.  The second time I sent it in, I spoke to them and they said they knew the problem and had a fix.  The last time, I think they milled/put a new bar in it?  I remember them saying something about it relaxing over time?  Anyway, I still love the bow despite the issues.  I have never shot better with any  of my dozen other bows.

I have a PLII, and noticed that the"sleeve" that the steel "u" connector goes into started to come out, which made the "takedown" really noticable.  It did push back in, gonna give them a call and see what I should do.  Love the bow.

Michael,
You bow is suffering like mine.  Send it to them.  It seems when the bar gets loose it shears the cement bond at the receiver.  I have never had my receiver slip out though.  When I see that cement crack, that's the last straw before I send it in.   I would call them ASAP.

I wouldn't buy one. I had one as a matter of fact it was the first Widow I owned. Had serious problems with it and Widow traded me for a new PSA. I now own 5 Widows and two of them are longbows. One one piece one locket socket takedown. Get the locketsocket and save yourself some possible grief. Frank

Thanks for all of the info I guess there's good and bad in all things.

I loved that bow!  Sent you a pm Ron.

I called them on mine and they said when it starts to come out again pull it out the rest of the way and scuff up the outsides of the socket and use gorilla glue.  Or I can send it to them and for a small fee they could do the above.
