A few of us went out to the plains in Aug to hunt antelope.  To our amazement, we were shocked at what we found.  The area we hunt was May green with water everywhere.  We usually sit waterholes and sometimes decoy in September, but spot and stalk out in this area is very difficult.  After three 12 hour days we had exactly two encounters between the three of us.  Normally we have three to five a day apiece.
The story on this buck is as follows.  The second day we decided to put blinds on a hole that we have never hunted.  About 11:30 am with the temperature approaching 100 degrees, this buck and a herd of does started their approach from the east.  They methodically worked to within 20 yards of my buddy's blind.  The buck hung up in perfect position and I was eagerly watching with binos for my buddy to shoot..... No shot.  The buck eventually worked over to me and I took the shot.  The does spooked at the sound again over to my buddy.  They hung up at about 25 yards....Again no shot.  Eventually the does caught his scent and bolted.  I got out the radio to raise my buddy and get the story.  "What the hell, over?"  I said.  His reply "What, what do want.  Did you see something?".   He was ASLEEP!   For those who cry foul, for the record we don't use radios to hunt, but we do use them to razz each other.

We don't have near as much cover as you have, we're stuck with farmers fields and no blinds.
