The bears on my baits have been very greedy this year. I thought

it was time to do something..

Good things are worth waiting for Paul , like holding out for that big boar for 3 years but don't make us wait 3 years for the story. Please!!!!!!!

The trail cams showed the bigger bears mostly after 8pm(legal shooting time ending 7:20 )and early am. The visits by the bigger bears were getting earlier each day. Resting the stand for 5  days I was settled in at 3 pm Friday afternoon with a honey burn going. There have been two 150# +/- bears hitting the bait just about every afternoon. That afternoon they didn't show. Weather and wind where perfect. Quiet, clear sky, with a slight breeze in my face. At 6pm a Kestel landed on my bow hanger hunting the chickadees that had been entertaining me.As we looked each other over from the space of a couple of feet I wished him good hunting.
At 6:39 on the camcorder a large black head materialized from the brush to the right of the bait.....

Archery isn't something I do, it's who I am!
The road to "Sherwood" makes for an awesome journey.

Paul,

Bears should FEAR you by this point!

Where is this hunt happening?  I look forward to hearing "the rest of the story!"

And sent it somewhere I can't find it!

Back to the story:

The bear committed to the bait quickly. He was  favoring his right forearm. Not the big boy but big enough. I had decided before season I would take a large(300# +/-)bear if the opportunity arose. He sat down with his back to me at the barrel for a few minutes then turned and walked a few steps to the honey burn and lay down facing me. He lay there for quite a while( the video recorded thirteen minutes of footage before the shot)satisfiying his sweet tooth with honey, chocolate and granola. The bear then stood, turned, slightly quartering away, and looked up at the beaver suspended over his head. The grizzly tipped arrow was on it's way. Took the bear high behind the shoulder. He hesitated for a moment then headed out slowly. The bear stopped at 30 yards or so. He was out of sight but I did hear a few deep breaths a few minutes after the shot. Not the sound I was hoping for. It was now dark and when in doubt back out.

After a night that we all dread  my freinds Jay and Erin and the boys Jacob and Joseph and I were back to take up the sparse blood trail...
The fleching section of the arrow was found 30 yards from the hit and was broke off 20 " from the head.About 150 yards from the hit we found the rest of the arrow. I did not get a picture as I had other things on my mind.Right about then I was wishing we had one of Jays excellent bear hounds along.Thankfully a few yards further we found his first bed and a few yards after that his last...
