I looked over past threads and didnt see this topic , SO here it is do you prefer to shoot off a feather rest or a rug / hair rest ?
Why ?

I trap/sell my own tanned Beaver for string silencers and such. I use a big chunk of the back hide/hair section where the under hair is the most dense. Then I shave it down to about 1/4"-3/8" depending on how it performs, leaving a nice flat spongy matt of fur on my arrow shelf. I love it, and I get great arrow launch off of Beaver versus anything else I've tried.
Last tip, I use double sided tape the heavy duty 3M brand for sticking my Beaver rest to my arrow shelf, and so far I haven't had any issues with it. I then use a piece of mole skin, or felt on the cut out above the riser shelf to deaden any arrow contact.

Never used a feather rest, always have used rugs. May try one just to see what it's like...Randy

I have found that for my wife, a feather rest really got her arrows flying perfect. For me, I found that when in the heat of battle shooting at a rabbit or pheasant, I sometimes compress them down and get a bit of porpoising.

Could somebody please post a pic of one of these feather rests? I honestly have never seen one and this is the first time I've heard of it.
I know.....I just crawled out from under a rock a week ago.

Another one for the rug, simple, durable, wife doesn't want me to vacuum it, what more can you hope for?

I usually use a feather rest. I think the arrow flight is a tad better.

Personally, I use a small or thin piece of leather for my rest.  I get excellent arrow flight and I believe less resistance producing a slightly quicker arrow.

Tried a feather rest on a 52" 52lb. Ben Pearson today, I find that I can flatten them out and get bad arrow flight at times.  My hard form cannot use anything that requires that light of a touch.

I have used both. I think a short feather rest produces very good arrow flight. Release problems will cause more bad arrows than the type of rest.  Good Hunting Knifemaker
