I am very accesable to fur and wool i looked at the rests and silencers on 3 rivers, and thought it looked simple to make these items, i am a trapper so i have some tanned hide and i use wool alot and have an abundance of it, do i just tie the wool on for a silencer, looks like i can just cut the tanned fur and glue on the shelf. Am i close or is it much more entailed?

Jim Check the past threads ,one was on here just a few days back and it was a how to put on silencers. Its very easy.Fur is nice for rests I've been using it for years. If the hair is to long I just take my electric hair trimmer and shave her down to what I want.

i use woolie whispers.they come with a string to tie them on.i don't see why you couldn't just tie yours on.try puffs of wool tied with dental floss.trim the wool until you get the results you are looking for.if it works send me some,i need new ones lol.good luck this season, steve

i also use beaver fur.cut a strip of fur aboat 1\\4 inch wide by 4 inches long.separate your sting an insert one end.wrap the rest around the string.now insert the other end in the string.when the string is taught it will stay in place.this sould work for other fur as well.hope this helps.good luck, steve

I do exactly what Seabass said ,A fella gave me a 2ft square of sheeps wool years ago ,which will last the rest of my life.Cut in strips and wound around the string.Works great.

Jim,
When you wrap your fur on the string make sure to wrap in the same direction as the string is twisted. That will keep it tight.

Use beaver for a rest. Shave it down to the felt for best results. It is also water proof. Wool or fur silencers are cool. Seems like you have plenty of input all ready

I'm using silver fox belly for silencers right now. Works good, Very light in weight and don't hold much water.
